I Need Help With My New DVD Writer!!

MicoMan (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 18th December 2003, 20:33

I have just bought an OEM version of the LG 4040b DVD writer.

It did not come with any instructions at all.

I need to know what jumper settings I do when I install it?

It should be fitted as secondary master? right?

I can find any info on the drive?

It depends on what cable you put it on and also if there is another drive that has it`s parameters set already.

I would always set a DVD burner to secondary master, although you will need another IDE cable and you might not have one. If not then you have to set it to slave on the primary channel.

Either way should be fine, it`s mostly personal preference.

Whack it on secondary master. Putting it on the same cannel as your HDD is not a good idea.

Just installed same writer myself - I replaced a CD-RW, that was set to secondary master, so easy swap.

Worked straight away on cd-re media.

Would be interested as to what DVD -/+ media you`re using ?

I like DATASAFE but its trial & error.

If you go to http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/main.php?main=Blank+DVD&session=a41909bff6a894c0ce9570951b5d045f they will sell you a 5 disc set of mix & match makes for about £5.00 - well worth it I got 4 x DVD+R & 1 x DVD+RW glad I done this as found out that my DVD player only recognises DVD+R & not DVD+RW otherwise I would have just bought the RW media & been stuck with it

Here is also a good place http://www.wcwmedia.com/index.asp

Edited to put links :)

Good luck ripping.

PS: I know of an excellent decrypter that you can download for free. Email me should you want the link

I have one hard drive, one CD writer and a DVD-rom drive at the moment. I will be replacing the DVD drive with the DVD writer.

Thanks for the help but what about the jumper? Leave as it is?

Set the new DVD drive to what the old one is set to, most probably master on the secondary IDE channel. If it`s the only device on the IDE cable, the onther connector on the IDE cable isn`t connected to anything, then it will not matter what it is set to as it`s the only device on that channel.

No need Hominid, got it , I only asked because I thought PFC might have found something new or generally unheard of , not that I am unhappy with the end result of dvd shrink but I like to keep an eye on developements ;)
