Lightweight notebook - help wanted

niteowl (Elite) posted this on Monday, 12th January 2004, 11:17

Can anyone recommend a light weight notebook?
Need to get a present for someone and was thinking of the Dell Inspiron 500m weight from 2.4 Kg and 14.1 XGA TFT on sale at £669+ Vat/Del). I tend to get my Pcs from Dell because of their good service/support. I`m hoping to order in next week. Also any comments on "Centrino".
Thanks for any help

I`m still looking for a lightweight notebook most of the ones I`ve seen are aroud 3.KG. I was hoping for something a lot lighter.

Can anyone out there help or even recommend an online notebook review site?
Dells offer runs out end of month.

I`ve got a Toshiba 4010 (now renamed to M100 I think)
The new ones (without DVD rom drive) - the R100 is 1.09 Kg, which is very light for the spec:

Thanks for the replies. I eventually got the Dell Latitude D600 weight appx 2.2 Kg 14.1 - I know they do one about 1.9Kg (model X300) but it had limitations and was only 12.1inches. The Inspiron 500m was having problems with the screen hinges leading to a long wait for delivery.

Stupid question time: The ntoebook will be used abroad i.e. USA can I use an ordinary UK/US adaptor or would you recommend something else?

Normally they have a transformer that will accept either 110v or 230~250v
Therefore, you shouldn`t have any probs using in the US - but best to check the back of the transformer to see what that says
