What kind of Printer do you use, and how can the manufacturer justify the price of new cartridges?
Mine is a Lexmark Z12.
Will
Lexmark "justify" the cost of their cartridges by carefully calculating that there are enough plebs out there who are seduced by the low price of the printer and dont check the cost of replacement ink!
It`s just like mobiles, consoles, and loads more things, get you trapped in by subsidising the hardware, and make your profits later.
Lexmark cartridges also include the print head mind, but they are still effing expensive.
Just picked up a Canon i450 from ebuyer for less than £50 myself, replacement cartridges, £2.50 each. Lovely!

I use a Z52 and TBH I use http://www.ink2u.co.uk for the majority of my cartridges. I usually buy my Photographic cartridges from Lexmark themselves as at the time the price was cheaper than from Ink2u.
TBH when you buy a printer you are basically, cost wise for the manufacturer, getting the printer free . The manufacturers bank on peoples unwillingness??? to buy cartridges from third party sources. I would take a rough guess and say that about 60% of people would buy from the manufacturer and the remainder obviously from another source. Those kinds of numbers probably work for the Lexmarks/HP/Canon`s of this world at the moment but if they have their wicked way third party sources will be effectively forced out of business and the punters will have to buy from the manufacturers.

Mine`s a 12 year old HP laser printer (HP Laserjet IIIP). I had to pay about £70 for a new toner cartridge recently, but I`m not really complaining as the previous cartridge lasted 5 years!

I`m with Mike on this one
I use a HP laserjet 4 and a 4L ( neither have ever let me down in years of use ) both with very long lasting cartridges ( for which I recently bought new HP originals on Ebay for around £ 25.00 each 8) )
I also have an Epson 790 for colour and photo work and use a bulk pack of 6 black and 6 colour compatable cartridges (( excellent quality )) from Choice Stationary which will last well over year for under £30.00.
My daughters PC is linked to a HP 710 but the running costs on it are so ridiculous that since my printers are available to her on our small LAN, guess where she prints off her documents ?
Anyone want to buy a HP710 ( only used with one set of cartridges ) :)

I recently bought the Samsung ML1210 for 50 quid guess how much the toner cartridge is.... :o
Having said that the printer price has gone upto the £70 mark. ;)
