i`d have thought the equipment you require would be:-
NTSC compatible VCR.
Video Capture card for the PC (ATI cards are commonly supplied with video
in / video out connectors)

if you have the above, run the A/V leads from the vcr to the input connectors
on the video card. you may find that you have to go into the advanced settings
of the video card to select 60hz (ntsc standard) otherwise you`ll get a dodgy picture.

then i suppose its just a case of playing the video and capturing it onto HDD ready
for transfer onto DVD-R

cost wise, ntsc compatible vcr £50 tops (yours may already be compatible if less than
5 years old) video/graphics card probably £70ish, maybe less?

Cheers Ste,

One thing i forgot to mention is that i`m running from a laptop so i`m asuming this equipment can be purchased externally? i.e USB2.

Video and leads i have already so no probs there.

Any advice on what make of external kit to buy or stay away from.

Cheers

Rich

Yes but the Serif product will only capture upto SVCD resolution. What I think you need is this USB2 product. It will capture video in VCD/SVCD/DVD resolution.
You can get it from Maplins for £49.99 (on special offer for the next week or so) - sorry no direct link, but type in product code A58AY. HTH
