Page 1 of dvd ripping encoding is too slow

help... when i encode a dvd to backup it seems to take like the whole lenth of the feature.. like 1xspeed?

which part is taking the longest time, and how exactly (step by step) are you doing the dvd`s, on a 4x drive copying from hard drive (ready encoded etc) should take no lnger than 15mins, from putting the original dvd in the drive to having a "burned" backup ;) usually takes me about 1hour 15mins max :D

putting in dvd intro drive

starting dvdshrink

anylised disc scans

then i press backup it then takes upto an hour and a half to encode the damn thing.

any tips..

1) Are you running deep analysis?
2) Are you ripping to HDD, or trying to rip on the fly?
3) Are you running anything memory intensive at the same time?
4) Are you running the programme on a ZX Spectrum?

1) Don`t.
2) Never rip on the fly. Rip to HDD, then burn later. 45 min at the longest to rip, 20 min tops to burn.
3) All rippers are memory intensive and need every bit of your system resources.
4) You`ve got to be using a Pentium 4 or Athlon.

Your burner speed has nothing whatsoever to do with your ripping speed.

Mark - I`ve been running deep analysis when my compression % is high (60% of original being the smallest that I haven`t analysed), due to the supposed increase in quality. Is this a waste of time?

Love it may just rip that off in future for postings. :P

I would just get what I can on the minimal compression I can & stuff the extras.

Disavowed: IF I did any ripping myself. I just follow the process for educational purposes & then occasionally give the odd bit of input wether its wanted or not. I don`t condone piracy & would never give the impression that I did, except for educational purposes as previously stated, in the interests of science & being able to give a impartial view as it were. Just my input & sweet frock ale to do with DVD Reviewer (the damn fine site that it is). :D

Lol all these disclaimers its starting to get like disqworld where there are some members selling or swapping copied dvd`s and as a few have been caught by trading standards there seems to be a lot of signatures to the tune of I do not sell or trade I just come here to look etc ........... erm ok why are you posting about the 500 dvd - r`s you have just had delivered ;) do they really think trading standards people are brain dead .

Oh and I only use my dvd burner for making dvd`s from my own camcorder tapes and back ups of my computers system files ;)

hmm. takes me 15 mins to encode, and about 15 mins to burn.. never really more than 30 mins tops.. have a 4x recorder, but i never bother to rip anything other than the main movie.. always skip the titles etc

V - Remember that the compression percentage on DVDShrink isn`t the amount the files are being compressed by, they`re the amount being compressed to, so the higher the number, the better the final result. Theoretically speaking (looks round furtively) compression only becomes really noticeable on large displays and nearer the 50%. I honestly don`t think deep analysis helps. You`d be better setting other items to custom compression rates (making odd extras still frames rather the full-motion video). If you`re re-authoring just the movie, the compression should be between 75-100%, unless it`s an epic blockbuster or Superbit.
