well its a SONY VAIO PGV-210 ( its a pentium II lapton - quite old ), Official Sony are very expensive, so I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative.

Yeah, probably to buy a new laptop.

Sorry if that sounds glib, but your machine is pretty old. You could probably pick up a similar spec, non-sony laptop for the same or less than the cost of a replacement screen.

Try picking up a copy of Micromart (exchange and mart for computers). They have litterally thousands of refurb laptops.
