Recommend me a Digital Camera...
My girlfriend wants a Digital Camera for her birthday, but there are so many and I just don`t know where to start. Price range can go up to £200 maximum, but apart from that no other restrictions. So can anybody possibly recommend a decent digital camera?
Any help and advice very much appreciated. :D
RE: Recommend me a Digital Camera...
Hi there Ben,
My Kodak Easyshare CX6200 is easy to use, and nice and light.
From having used it for a while.
I`d advise the use of rechargeable batteries, 2 sets might be a good idea.
Budget for a good sized memory card and a case for the camera.
Best wishes
Jemma
I can recommend any of the Canon "A" range. I got an A60 off Amazon recently and am WELL impressed. For an amateur like me it makes my attempts at photography look great! A good site to start lookng is www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html .
My Dad has a Nikon & a SONY and my brother in law has a Canon too. This all depends on what you want from it too though, a tiny camera for taking with you all the time or something a bit bigger that you can learn to use all the functions over time? For me, after a number of Casio`s & Kodaks, the Canon seems streets ahead and gives me more functions than I`ll ever use. It has now been superceded by the A75 range but the basics are still there.
Good luck anyway...Flyer...

What type of photographer is your girlfriend, snapper or dedicated? If she just wants a camera to keep with her at all times for snapshots and mementos the I`d take a look at the Casio Z4 in red that 7dayshop have for £199 plus p&p. Tiny jewel (credit card size), of a camera with 4MP, 3x optical zoom and large 2" LCD. Amazon have the Pentax S4 for £195 inc, which is pretty much the same camera but with a smaller LCD. If you want something cheaper still then you can drop down to the Casio Z3 or Z30 with 3MP.
If she likes to have a little more control (ooer!), then you need to consider if size is a priority (!), or if she prefers a big zoom (!!). Take a look at the Minolta Z1 (Z2`s still too expensive-£219 at 7dayshop), or something like the Olympus C725 for large zoom cameras or the Canon A80 for 3x zoom with 4MP (£189 plus p&p, 7dayshop again), and the Canon A75, 3.2MP and 3x zoom.
Good luck
Chris

Give pixmania a try to, they are based in Paris but still offer next day delivery to UK. They also do deals that include case, charger, high capacity batteries and the all essential bigger memory card.
They were by far the cheapest when I was looking for one just before Christmas, they also increased your guarantee to 2 years free of charge and for around £15 (a percentage of cost of camera) they give you and insurance policy so if you camera goes faulty they just give you money for a new one instead of trying to repair it. Not sure if this was a temporary offer or a permanent deal.
BTW I bought a Fuji A310s, a friend of mine and my uncle are professional photographers and both highly recomended Fuji. Can say it is great, light, small, brilliant pictures and very easy to use. One other thing they did say is stay clear of Kodak, aparantly they are un-reliable although a friend has a Kodak and hasnt had a days trouble with it.
All the best
Ger.

I`m also very pleased with the A60 that I ordered from Amazon for £99. I`m only an amateur with cameras but I`m impressed with the quality of the photos it takes and it has far more options than I ever expected.
If you decide to choose its successor or another camera from the Canon "A" range then you can also get a free 128Mb Flash Card using this voucher (spotted by spartacus).
You`ve got plenty of time as the offer expires 31st December 2004. You might have to wait a few months, however, for the card to arrive (luckily for me it only took a week or two).
As already mentioned you`ll need to buy some rechargeable batteries (mine were about £14 for the 4).

Thankyou for all the recommendations! I will definitely check them all out. We had looked at a Sony Cybershot, but with a decent memory stick it was bordering on the £200 mark, and I didn`t want to go that high if possible. I remembered there was a link to a camera for £99 on Amazon.co.uk, but wasn`t sure what it was. At the minute that`s looking a potential buy, especially with the free memory stick.
Thanks again guys and gals!

:) :)
I agree with Lionel.
I started the thread a while back for the Canon A60.after seeing the Amazon
offer, since then my son has bought one, and I have to say it is a fantastic
little camera, very easy to use with great results.
If you can get one for a good price, Go for it.
I guarantee you wont be disapointed, and dont forget the free 128mb flash card.
Good Luck.
COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!

I like the Olympus Camedia C-310 with 3.2 Million and 3x optical Zoom.
I like selling these at work. Good value at £150 but even cheaper on net. Only £105 plus delivery! Leave`s enough cash for a big memory card and case.
