Are you sure you don`t need a regular-sized modem? My PC is a miniature one and it only needs a miniature motherboard - I`m certain the modem is standard size.

Could well be small form factor, work insisted on buying SFF PC`s for 800+ users then had to pay a premuim for SFF parts on non standard builds, mind you logistics pay over the odds anyway IMO.

Your best bet may well be to buy a USB external modem, but 2 - 3 inches sounds normal for a standard PC, 2 -3 cm for a SFF case.

I wonder if it could be one of those CNR modems (Communication and Networking Riser)? Do you have any sort of manual that indicates what sort of modem you need?

If you have a PCI slot you could get a normal PCI modem; modems are usually pretty small in my experience

If you have USB or serial you could get an external modem

He means a "half height" or "low profile" PCI card. They are like regular cards, but are for the thinner small form factor cases. Many SFF will take standard cards, but some need the ickle versions.

I dunno who has them specifically, but you could contact a couple of the SFF specialists:

or even people like
