Backing up Multi Region DVD
Folks, Im wanting to backup a Region 3 DVD (my DVD and dont want the kids to scratch it). I usually use Nero with DVD Shrink. If I put in a region 3 disk too many times, I risk converting my CD/DVD reader, which I dont want to do
Is there a simple way round this? :/
RE: Backing up Multi Region DVD
If you hold down Shift when you are putting the DVD in the drive and while it would be loading, then it won`t load up in your DVD software and won`t take one of your region changes.
I successfully backed up Ring, Battle Royale and Dark Water with this method.
I couldn`t make the R1 "The Princess Bride" SE back up though, it said "DVD is encrypted" - I assume this is the RCE encoding... I`d be grateful if anyone can let me know (in moron`s terms, I am slow today!) how to get past this, thanks.

cheers, xfilesgurly, what are you using to copy & compress, as I thought DVD Shrink was getting round this for me?
RE: Backing up Multi Region DVD
I use DVD Shrink. It`s got past the region protection on the R3 ones I tried, but it won`t do The Princess Bride for some bizarre reason. IIRC it fails on the analysis stage.

any dvd
this will get around regions and copy protection. 15 day trial then £21 .. . Get`s around Copy protected cd`s, regions and RCE and makes sure your drive doesn`t get permanently locked to a region! brilliant.

RE: Backing up Multi Region DVD
Cheers & thankyou - will this stop my DVD drive from converting to region..whatever..
RE: Backing up Multi Region DVD
You could always flash the firmware of your drive if you feel comfortable. It`s pretty easy to be honest. Depends on the make of the drive as to whether firmware is out there though. I flash all my drives as I can`t be bothered with any of that silly software.
RE: Backing up Multi Region DVD

I have been using any dvd for 2 years, never let me down, and I have regions 1 to 4 going in my drive a lot...
