OEM SATA Hard Drive - Advice needed
Hi,
Ive just ordered a Western Digital 120gb SATA HDD from ebuyer (OEM).
My question is, will it include the SATA data and power connecting cables?
Thanks

Put it this way, I`d be very very surprised if it did.
Nearly all OEM stuff I`ve bought (CD/DVD drives, hard drives etc.) has never come with cables.

Thanks,
not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for replying.

You should get the SATA cable with your motherboard.

PC was bought complete from Carrera. I didnt specify an SATA drive when ordering (though the AsRock K8S8X MB supports them). Carrera didnt have the foresight to send me the cables as part of the package.
Im now fitting a second internal HDD for extra storage and backing up of the original drive and thought SATA was the way to go.
Hope I havent made a mistake!

Nah, you`ll be alright.
Hopefully, if the motherboard supports SATA then the power supply should have SATA power connectors as well...then you just need the motherboard<>HD cable (a couple of quid from ebuyer I think).
If the power supply doesn`t have SATA power connectors then there are adapters you can find - again on ebuyer

If you buy something OEM it means it`s barebones only: no discs, cables or anything else - not even fixing screws!
It`s cheaper than the Retail versions which comes will all mod cons, but it`s designed for PC builders and the suchlike and so doesn`t come with any extras.

Thanks MilesR
MB has connections for 2 SATA devices inc power connector, so it can be set up in a raid configuration. (Dont have a clue what that actually means though!)
Thanks Chug a Bug,
I knew that OEM didnt usually come with software etc, but was unsure of cables and fasteners. Looks like a post Xmas trip to my local PC shop will be required.

Let me see if i can put this right..
Raid 0 - you`ll be using 2(or more) HD and it`ll make it looks like you`re using 1 big HD. This improves your read/write time as its as though u have 1 big HD with 2 read/write head. Can be problem if one disc become corrupted they both go down.
Raid 1 - Mirroring. Instead of the size of 2 HD , you`ll be getting only the size of 1 since basically you`re mirroring the other HD so that the 2 HD will contain identical data. It functions more like a backup if one of the data corrupted.
The other Raid types will deal with other ways to ensure data integrity. :)

Thanks Chug A Bug.
Think Ill just use it as both back up and extra storage as intended.
Just need to find cables and fasteners now.
