Radio reception on speakers!

MrTombs (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 21st December 2004, 13:43

Just wondering if this is normal or a fault on my speakers. I live near to an FM radio station in Spain. I used a pair of cheap speakers without any problems for a while but then decided to upgrade to some Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers. Whenever they are plugged in they pickup a low but irritating reception of the local station. Should I take them back or is it just a case of being too efficient? :/ Thanks for advice

The bloke that lives near me is a ham radio fanatic (like a big CB with a HUGE antenna in his garden) - occaisionally I get garbled "voice like" sounds from my speakers when he`s on.

Either that - or the aliens are coming and I`m picking up their transmissions. :D

I suppose there`s some way to shield the speakers, but it`s probably not worth it.

Hi

Possibly using Ferrite rings on the cable may help. I think they were used to block cb radio in the 1980s and if its real bad try screened cable for the speakers.

bye

Thanks for the advice. When I`ve woked out what it means I`ll try it ;)
