Page 1 of help with my dvd rewriter

Yesterady evening my dvd rewriter started playing up. When you put a disk init and then try to load the disk the disk starts spinning but then the time glass comes up and then does nothing after that.I can still open other programs and when i do ctrl alt delete and check the performance it is at 1% but the disk never loads up.
i am running xp pro sp1 (installed sp2 this morning but still have problem)

I tried again this morning and when i went into my computer the disk had the picture when it is not associated to anything i also got an error mesage "NT On-access scanner Service" have checked google and they say it may be a faulty mcafee update so i will try to unistall but does anyone else have any ideas.

I think my dvd rewriter is a lite on ldw 811sand has a web address od www.liteonit.com so i might try their for drivers.

Had Exactly the same symptoms with my A105. by all means try new drivers, it made no difference to mine, had to replace it. now got an NEC dual layer. It`s probably defunct, a dead DVD

Can you pop it in another machine? If so, that`ll confirm whether it`s a drive related problem or not
