RE: Mobile harddrive recommendations please!
I don`t think that a 3.5" HDD can be powered from the USB port (bound to be proved wrong) The Ebuyer enclosure mentioned is definately powered from the mains.
I use a s/hand 2" drive from a laptop in the smaller case (loads on ebay) these are powered from the USB port, so only one cable required.
You will need USB2 as the transfer speed on USB is abysmal

RE: VIDEO_TS prob backing up broken disk
I`ve had a similar problem with one or more files seeming to be unreadable, I used a program called CD/DVD Data Recovery this has worked 100% on 4 discs so far
It takes quite a time 12 hours in one case (overnight)
RE: Sky + Problem?
I`ve recently had this problem on almost every recording, seem to have solved it by:-
Services
System Setup
01
Select (this puts you into the Installer Setup)
Sky+ Planner Rebuild
If that doesn`t work then Full System Reset will probably be the answer, this wipes out all recordings and future recodings
RE: Activity Gifts - Sky Diving...... anyone worth using?
Get in touch with the British Parachute Association, they will give you details of the nearest drop zone
RE: Freeview Box, looking for some recommendations approx £50\£60 please
I think the important feature for a free view box is the EPG ( Electronic Program Guide ).
Almost all of the < £60 boxes only have a Now & Next program guide, that is what is on each channel now and the next program.
The more expensive Philips & Sony have an 7 or 8 day EPG, showing all programs for all channels for the next 7 or 8 days. usually with the facility to select programs for automatic viewing
RE: Is this cover archive site down?
It has been down most of the time since Friday, but seems to be working OK now
RE: No sound on feature film when using CloneDVD!!
I use CloneDVD2 v2.8.4.1 and have not had that problem, all I can suggest is
Make sure you have all the Audio Streams ticked
Check the audio output of the DVD player in the setup menu, [try other settings].
Make sure the SCART is fully plugged in at each end
RE: Free Hubble DVD - 40,000 copies only - offer ends 20 May
You can download a copy of the DVD Cover Here
RE: Backing up a dvd under dvd decrypter crc erorr?
Cyclic Redundency Check usually meansd that a file is corrupted, or a pressed DVD is damaged. Try cleaning the DVD, a fingermark can cause this.
If cleaning no good then try CD/DVD Data Recovery availabel here
It has worked great on a pressed DVD that had a CRC, although sometimes can`t do the job.
Takes ages, leave it working overnight

RE: dvd editing
About 20 mins to take out ads and save as an mpg file, then about 10 mins in Ulead, then however fast your DVD-R is

RE: Mac Disable SCART Lead
Can confirm that the Sonel works OK
RE: dvd editing
I use Womble MPEG Video Wizard 2003. I record onto a DVD+RW and this software allows the bits at start/end to be removed, also the ad breaks. After saving the results on PC then need DVD authoring software to put it back on a DVD-R. I use Ulead Video Studio 8. Done about 30 so far all excellant results including those from VHS
Both the above can be found using Google
RE: Access/Excel help needed
Export from Excel as a CSV [comma separated variables] file, use the Save As command then import same file into Access. Never used Works but the same should apply
RE: Is there software that can
Have a look on some kareoke sites, they have software which separetes vocal from backing. I tried some a couple of years back, it took some setting up on individual tracks. Can`t remember the title of the software
RE: help with my dvd rewriter
Had Exactly the same symptoms with my A105. by all means try new drivers, it made no difference to mine, had to replace it. now got an NEC dual layer. It`s probably defunct, a dead DVD
RE: Photo Printers
I use the Epson R200 same printer as the R300 but without the memory card facility. This is an excellent photo printer. I get a complete set of 6 compatible cartridges for just under £9 from SVP
Had a number of Epson Printers over the years & have always used compatible inks, apart from those that come with the printer. they give excellent results
RE: Fatal Error
Installed from the CD the driver was v1.2 have downloaded the new v1.3
I want to clear this Fatal Error Message before trying again
XP does not have SP1 or SP2 installed, but manual says that SP1 can cause problems and gives alternative versions of system files to download, so I`m assuming that the vanilla version of XP should be OK
Fatal Error
Every time The PC [XP Pro] boots up a message informing me that the system has recovered from a fatal error, do I want to send details to Microsoft.
I say no, the computer then carries on and seems to work OK The PC shuts down OK when required.
The error occured after installing an Adaptec USB device to import analogue video, this crashed the PC after 5 mins importing video, Removed the Drivers & software, now giving the above message all the time
How can I stop it telling me, I`ve switched off the automatic Error Reporting to no avail
Anyone got an ideas
Should I use the repair Windows option? Reinstall? a bit drastic
RE: Converting VHS Sleeves to DVD ?!?
Just reducing the size distorts the cover, as the DVD is shorter & fatter than the VHS and the spine area is much wider so wraps round front & back.
What I do is scan into Paint Shop Pro, then create a blank with the dimensions 27.4cm wide by 18.4 cm deep
From an existing DVD cover measure the spine location & width.
Then using cut & paste select the front from the VHS and paste into the apprpriate area on the Blank, if possible cut a bit off the top and/or bottom to minimise deformation, do the same with back & spine
RE: What kit do I need on the PC to edit a DVD recording of a TV broadcast
I have not read the instructions for Womble. so what follows is probably a kack-handed way of doing it, but it works
Ope Explorer and drag the VOB files from the DVD-RW disc into the videotrack, search for the ads click the Split clip button at beginning and end of ads then highlight section and click delete clip button. If you have a scroll wheel on mouse use this to scroll back/forward frame by frame
slide the two sections back together.
Highlight all the sections, click on each while holding down Shift, then press the group button
when all done click on export button, on floating toolbar
General tab to select dir/filename
Monitor tab to start, the file is saved as an .mpg file which can be loaded into Ulead
I`ve just done the thomas crown affair from 5 took about 20 mins to edit the 15 to create DVD.
consisted of 3 VOB files to drag in
RE: What kit do I need on the PC to edit a DVD recording of a TV broadcast
That`s what i`m doing recording with a Lite-On 5006 onto DVD+RW then taking it to the PC for the editing and recording onto DVD-R
RE: What kit do I need on the PC to edit a DVD recording of a TV broadcast
I use Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2003 this allows me to remove intro, outro and ad breaks before recording to a DVD-R with Ulead Video Studio 8 this allows more than one episode per DVD with a front end menu as well
Google will find both for you to try

RE: Blunket to resign in the next few mins.
Just goes to show, it`s the cover-up that always gets them.
If He had admitted at the beginning, `i did it for the woman i loved` might have all blown over by now
RE: Fitting a CD Changer in a Car (KDC929 w/ KDC8021
My car [1996 model] already had the cable from the head unit into the boot, just had to plug it into CD changer [Grundig]
So check to see if yours is already fitted, and if so what model of CD changer is compatible
RE: .pdf how do i view a file in this format?
