Retrieving email from a slave hard drive??
Hi,
When I installed a new motherboard/fan/memory etc I couldn`t boot from my original hard drive.
I had a new spare one so installed xp on it and away I went!
The original hard drive is now hooked up as a slave but I need to access the emails I had in outlook express - does anyone know how I can do it?
I`ve searched about but can`t find anything - any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Simon

If your using Outlook they`re stored in a .pst file located at.
Outlook.pst is stored in the <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.
Just copy it across and overwrite the current one (unless you have some new stuff already)
Found the location for mine with a fairly quick search on Microsofts site as I`ve just had exactly the same problem.
Sorry just noticed the Outlook Express in your message, should still be in the same location though I should think.

I think Outlook Express and Outlook (2000/XP/2003) use different file formats.
If it`s outlook express you can copy all the files from one to the other just by replacing all the dbx files (back them up of course), then export the messages, then copy you new files back and import the exported messages.

You need to find your original file called inbox.dbx. Quickest way is to do a search. Location is normally Documents/"user name"/local settings/apps data/identities/"number string"/microsoft/outlook express/inbox.dbx
You`ll need to enable view hidden folders in your tools - folder options menu.
In your new outlook express program do File - Import and go to this location. E-mails should be now copied in
