I`ve got an audio cd recorder (Yamaha) and just plug up a tape player via an input.
Think you can do it through a PC though somehow! :/

I did try connecting a small tape player using the headphone socket then connecting to the line in on the computer but did`nt know wot to do next.

Don`t try it with the headphone socket - you`ll get a p*** weak signal, and the end result will sound awfull. Try and get a tape player with a designated line out, and do as you have done already.

Go to a s/h shop and buy a hi-fi tape deck that you would normally use with a separate amplifier. Then use the deck to amp connection to input to your PC audio in socket.

That`s how I copied all my book cassette tapes to Cd`s.

You can get a y cable 2 phono plugs "red and white" to 1 line in plug.

just plug the red and white into an "audio out" on a tape deck or stereo with tape deck or an amp

then:

plug the "line in" black plug into the "line in" socket on the back of the PC.

then the softwre I use to capture sound is

magix audio cleaning lab 2005

it`s a VERY simple to use program.

you can get a free programme that will help u transfer audio from a record/tape deck on to your computer
and u can save it in .wav format or.mp3 so that you can record it straight to cd as well as do loads of other things with it
