A question about 24mb Broadband

yabba dabba (Elite) posted this on Monday, 19th September 2005, 11:21

UKonline will soon be launching their ADSL2+ service in the UK and i was wondering is it really worth having 24mb over something like 2mb or 8mb?

Do you have to have a top spec computer for this? and will you get the full speed through the standard BT phone line?

You have to be really close to the exchange to get anywhere near 24Mb, if you can get 2Mb now then you`ll likely get a faster connection - but how much quicker will be solely dependent on your line quality.

If you don`t download large files alot of the time then, for me, 2Mb is fast enough. I can Dl a 350Mb file in 20 minutes, if the speed regrade is for free then fine, but if it was more money then no thanks.

//edit, It`s the ADSL modem that has to be adsl2+ complient, the newer netgear 834g`s are with the latest firmware i know that. The computer should be fine unless it`s and old P90 or some such, ethernet has little cpu load on newer computers(ethernet is the link between a computer and an ADSL router, over a CAT 5 cable).
