Its a server.

Functional but its still a server, which will run perfectly as a PC I might add..

You might be better off putting some money into additional memory, just boosted THO`s 1.7Ghz Celeron laptop by 128Mb to 256Mb which boosted performance no end.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

Sorry to disagree, but the EvoW6000 was marketed by Compaq as a mid to high end graphics workstation - I bought about 20 of them 3.5 years ago. I bought them with 1Gb RAM, 2GHz processors & high end graphics cards (at the time).
We still use them for CAD application. The advantage of the Xeon over a P4 is that it has a much larger instruction cache, which really helps CAD fly.

If the m/c seems sound & I would give it a punt.

Yes it is a good price and it is server spec so maybe a little noisy. You will find it difficult to upgrade the hard disc cheaply though as it may not support IDE drives. Ultra Wide SCSI is very expensive.
