Do you mean Windows update on XP?

Try setting it to download updates but choose when to install option?

Cheers

sorry - yes it is the Windows XP atu update. Tried your suggestion FM, but it`s still asking to restart autoamtically :(

Not quite sure what you`re asking. Depending on what you install the PC may need a reboot. Don`t know if you can turn that off.

I`m talking about the automatic Windows updates. As soon as they`ve downloaded, I get a pop up window saying that my update is almost complete and that in order to complete, the computer must be restarted. Then there is the option to let it restart itself (witha 4 minute countdown) or to restart later.

I don`t think you can turn it off, you`ll have to restart it eventually so the updates can complete. I`m guessing you`re doing something important and can`t risk turning the PC off at this moment?

If you`re on about the actual Automatic Updates, goto `Control Panel`, then `Security Center` and turn it off.

Is this a `flaw` with Windows Home Edition? I`ve always used Pro until now, and I never had an automatic restart with Pro. I tried going to the update options and changing it to `Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them.` Alas my laptop is still trying to auto restart.
