Wireless Internet stops loading web pages after random amount time ( XFG )

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 18th November 2007, 18:57

For some reason the wireless internet connection on my desktop cuts out after a random amount of time and I just don`t understand why. uTorrent continues to run fine uploading and downloading so it`s just web browsing that is effected. Restarting my machine solves the problem as does pulling the power from the router. Simply disconnecting from the WAN and reconnecting does not work.

I`m with Sky and although I was using their router I switched to a Netgear RangeMAX DG834N and the problem is still there. I`m guessing it may be a router config issue but other than some basic Port Forwarding my router/network skills are limited.

I remember xfg had a similar problem with time outs with her router but I can`t find the thread.

Any ideas about common problems which I could check?

Cheers
Ross

Have you tried upgrading the firmware of the router to the latest?

I had this problem on the DG834GT. uTorrent would appear to be working fine but web browsing stopped. Upgrading the firmware to the latest version solvedd the problem for me.

They`ve always had tons of useful info when I`ve had problems with my Sky BB.

Have you recently upgraded your uTorrent client?

Not recently but this has been happening for a while so it may be related. I`m running 1.7.5 (I think). I`ll see about upgrading the firmware but it`s happening with 2 seperate routers so makes me wonder.

1.7.5 changed the way it handled concurrent connections so if your tcp.sys is still set to the default 10 you will struggle to get a reliable internet connection whilst uTorrent is running.

Check out this site and try their fix to see if it helps.

With me the problem was with DNS and everything was stopping dead every 13 minutes (to the second), torrents included.
