XP media center edition.. any good?
Just about to do a fresh install of xp, and have a copy of this.
I have a 360 too and have haerd good things about using MC with it. Worth the effort?
Or just stick with normal XP. Not bothered with VISTA as mosty of my progs won`t run with it.

never used it but hear good things about it.
very similar to xp pro and has the added bonus of allowing
your 360 to browse t`internet....apparently. you might want
to google how.

Fantastic mate, if i could have it instead of Vista so called ultimate id snatch ur hand of :)
RE: XP media center edition.. any good?
Yep for sure media centre is the way to go. I use windows media centre on Vista Ultimate and use a media server I built. I have 4 250gb HDD and am going through putting all my dvds on it. I will need about another 4 HDD to fit them all on (400) and that is getting them all to 4.3GB.
I also use a dvd xml file which gives you the cover icon in the media centre otherwise you will get a screen shot. I posted info on this in this link below

Xp media centre is good so Ive been told if using xbox 360 as the MCE (media centre exteneder ) and you are using it on a wireless network you might have to open the ports for the xbox to pick up the pc on your router. you can get all the screen shots of how to do this here.

Any more info just ask

And even if you go Media Center, it`s not the only front end. You can still use it exactly like `nornal` windows too..

Having used XP MCE (2005) for 2 years and now Vista Home Premium for just over a year now I`d have to say that on balance the Vista edition is better (read I`ve encountered less issues with it!). It`s a new machine but both clean installs by myself with same TV card in both.
XP MCE is a very good baseline but the Media Center bit seemed to `act up` on occasion. The Vista MC interface looks a bit worse (cluttered) but overall it seems to behave a little better. I did recently lose the ability to `Sleep` - when it resumed the TV signal is nowhere to be seen :( I`ve now switched to Hibernating which is almost as good (slower restart time) but works.
Vista itself, well I dislike pretty much most of the changes Microsoft made - nearly all are of no benefit, glass is an over-hyped feature, performance is terrible unless you stick loads of RAM in (I`m running 2GB with Vista and was running 512MB with XP MCE). Lots of people love it (looks driven) and almost as many hate it (must be a Marmite product!). Me, well I wouldn`t want to upgrade my main PC with it :)
RE: XP media center edition.. any good?
oh well.. :(
Installed it..and..
I now have no sound, and no ammount of drivers or poking around the interweb can make it work.. Have no idea what the hell I`ve done, but there is just no audio device in there. I know it was an onboard audio thing and not a card.. damn it... :(
