Dose any body or indeed a nobody have any idea how Sky legally shackle customers to there modem/router.
As I understood it it is practically possible to use any modem-router
I also believe that there is legally such a thing as an unfair contract
I`ve never heard of an ISP doing this before
I use my phone on a bt line, i use supermarket fuel in my mercades. My washing machine works perfectly well with the relivant powder from the local shop. Nobody gives a toss here.

Would you care to re-phrase that into proper English so that I could report it as abuse?
Thanks!

I think you may have misunderstood my reply, Jemma. The SkyUser website is not owned or run by Sky, it is operated by Sky users and there are many threads on extracting the user name and password from a Sky router in these threads which should help you in using a different router.
If you didn`t misunderstand my reply but are just being stroppy then you can kiss my shiny metal ass. :)

mister smee RE: sky broadband question
all i`m trying todo is establish is how sky legally tie you to useing their supplied equipment?
yes i am fully aware that there are work arounds
i believed that what sky are doing was illegal, which is why i am interested to know how they get away with it
yes i have tried to discover how in the forrums but nothing
thanks
RE: mister smee sky broadband question
If you don`t like the contract, don`t sign it. It`s voluntary and you can get BB from someone else.
There are also a lot of people who use their own kit with Sky quite happily.
If you do use your own equipment you are only breaking the ts&cs of the contract, not doing anything illegal. In real terms, the worst that is likely to happen is their tech support will tell you to biff off if you ring them with a problem or very worst case, they cancel your connection.
I don`t really understand what the problem is.

RE: mister smee sky broadband question
How can it be illegal if they are giving you the necessary tools to access their services?
Plus you`ll find it`s all in their contract.
AOL tie you to an AOL modem/router, Sky do it, O2 do it, basically, they all do it.
There will be ways the smarter people have found (points upwards to the post with the sky forums link, comments about internet search engines etc.) who know how to reprogram other equipment to work but that`s your choice as to whether to read up and use it or not.

RE: mister smee sky broadband question
seriously i used to be with tiscali they did not object to me using my own modem-router.
i`m now with bethere, their support quite professionally helped me connect with my modem router
I truthfully believed that sky would eject any one discovered to be using their own modem router. It is alledged strongly that they can easilly check
