WIN32/heur virus help please

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Thursday, 13th August 2009, 19:53

Managed to get win32/heur on my system and I can`t seem to shift the bugger. It`s seems a tenacious git, and everytime I think I`m getting somewhere I get another resident shield alert, with the virus seeming to come from a random .exe in system32

Run AVG and SAS in safe mode, but that doesn`t appear to have been successful

go here to download removal tool, http://www.scanforfree.com/07/remove-win32.heur.html

have you tried system restore to see if you can take your pc back to a time before you were infected, hope this helps.

Thanks for trying, but 2 things

System restore is useless against viruses.

any website that calls itself `scanforfree` should also be called `clean your computer for a charge of £70. It was only the scan that was free`

I know this may sound daft but you have disabled sys restore before completing the scans?

think I`ve killed it. Combination of SAS, Malwarebytes, hijackthis, buggering about in safe mode and a touch of unhackme, haven`t had a threat alert in a few days.

I had a good rummage around the AVG forum looking for assistance and was not impressed with the amount of removal tools etc.

I was actulally given some sound advice from someone I`ve bought some DRR ram boards from on ebay. The post office have screwed up the delivery (i.e. lost them somewhere near Bolton) so in the midst of our communication i jokingly referred to this particular problem and he helped me out considerably

Think he`ll be getting a positive rating whatever...
