I`ve run out of ports on my router.. need two devices to connect to one - but no power..

I don`t have any more ports available on my router (all 4 in use) and don`t want to add a switch there and run another cable all the way to where I need another connection.  Not interested in mains network either.
Where I have a cable terminating I would like to connect two devices - BUT I don`t want to need to plug anything in to the mains either.  Does such a thing exist?  I suppose it`s like a phone line splitter but for a network cable.
Basically my TV is networked (for iPlayer) and I`m thinking of adding some sort of media player to it (WD HD Live maybe?) and want to connect that too.

You can`t split an ethernet cable that way, sorry. You have to have a hub or a switch.

Ditto to what RJS says.

I think you`re after the impossible Ste. Can you not convert one of the existing physical connections to a wireless one easily?

EDIT: Just re-read what you wrote and makes more sense.
You want to use that existing cable that`s going to your TV for multiple items.
In which case, you have to use a switch, no other way mate.

Didn`t think there was but worth asking.  I got a bit excited when I saw things like this (because only half the cables in the cable are used) but you still need two ports in the router.
This also seemed close - but you still need two cable runs. (see first review)

Cheers.

Cant you connect to the WD live and then connect that to the TV thus one connection will support two devices.

Not sure if this is possible with your set up.

Why not use a router that can function as a wifi bridge, four ports then exist "upstairs" connected wirelessly to the router "downstairs"?

We use a PC connected wirelessly to a second router (better performance than the Telus POS) wired into the Telus one, someday soon I may impliment the above.

No, the WD Live only has one network port.  I have a Sonos music system that does exactly that so my connection to that goes in and then daisychains to the PS3.
Not quite sure what you mean rass about the one upstairs connecting wirelessly to one downstairs.  I don`t want it connected wirelessly - performance is nowhere near ethernet.  It was all only a question of aesthetics so I didn`t need another box with lights under the TV and cables and power.  I know I could just add a switch upstairs and run another cable.
Reason I didn`t want power is because this is where it`s going and it will spoil it a bit imho..

Now thats the kinda thing I want in the dedicated HT Room downstairs, all cabling routed through the wall & ceiling.
