1 - did windows updates of Nvidia yesterday...
2 - had no images so deleted update
3 - rebooted to do system restore....nothing.....
4 - rebooted couldn't get into safe mode
5 - rebooted again received following....Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt :
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setop CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Am I totally up the creek without a paddle OR does someone out there know this problem ?????.....REMEMBER people...idiot speak replies only please......
Yours totally stuck....Moods

do you have a windows CD?
what version of windows is it?
if it's xp, and you have a cd, follow the instructions

to be honest, there's tutorials on what to do when this happens, just follow one of them, probably at about.com or somewhere like that.

If the suggestions by Admars don't work, I'd just go with a complete reinstall.

you could try booting into mini xp and copying the system file from that to that directory on your hard disk, may or may not.

alternatively chkdsk /f/r could fix it from a dos prompt. Hiren may have a gui util to chkdsk, can't remember. normally you can do it from windoiws explorer but I don't know if Hiren's windows explorer lets you. right click on the windows drive, properties, tools, check both boxes in check now, can take a long time to fix and repair, i.e. hours

ubuntu has a utility in there as well which lets you check file system for erros, part of gparted

Ideally you need to use a utility to identify your OEM XP key, then grab a Windows XP HE edition OEM uncracked installation disc from a torrent, and then reinstall.
