Google, you're internet stalker

When Google bought DoubleClick in 2007, for instance, the company’s privacy policy stated: “DoubleClick’s ad-serving technology will be targeted based only on the non-personally-identifiable information.”

...

But this summer, Google quietly erased that last privacy line in the sand – literally crossing out the lines in its privacy policy that promised to keep the two pots of data separate by default. In its place, Google substituted new language that says browsing habits “may be” combined with what the company learns from the use Gmail and other tools.

Yep, Google want to track you everywhere you go, same as Facebook and Twitter. Time to wrap your Android phone in tin foil?

Some governments are quite quiet in their criticism of this mass collection of personal data, which makes me think either they are doing the same (well we know they are!) or hoping they can acquire it from these companies later.

Mark my words, when Google perfect their AI, the robot revolution will come quickly and our new overlords will know everything about all of us!

I'm going to start building my emergency Mars escape rocket right now.

Funny I've never seen 'will' spelt m a y before.

The day there's a 'See I told you all but you wouldn't listen' post on here from Bandi I'm topping myself.
If Google will let me.

I've already started playing with an Arduino, it should be able to handle the launch control automatically when the time comes.

I just need to build a rocket, compressing air inside a 1 litre plastic cola works really well, so I'm just going to scale it up to 100 bottles!

Drink'em.
Same effect, no hardware.

Stephen Hawking agrees with me!

Hawking even went so far as to suggest that the creation of AI could potentially end up being the last accomplishment of mankind if we do not learn to understand the risks associated with it.

Oh the RHLSTP podcast with Armando Iannucci that I was listening to last night, he talks about the idea of a movie about AI reaching true intelligence and the resulting robots trying to take over the world, only their bodies are still the ones we see on youtube that keep falling over and can't do stairs.

Also from the Q&A session in 2014 where the quote seems to originate from.

Quote:
"We are not going to stop making progress, or reverse it, so we have to recognize the dangers and control them," he said. "I'm an optimist, and I believe we can."

So back to Isaac's laws of Robotics then.

I think if we ever get close to genuine AI it's going to be an interesting discussion. It's kind of like nuclear energy, where the side effects could be huge in who you allow to develop it.

I would say 95% of coders just pull libraries off the shelf, kind of like Martin Brundle in The Fly (the remake). There are open source third party libraries that do pretty much everything any commercial one does, so the moment someone cracks true AI others are going to as well, and we'll be in the same situation for this kind of technology.

At that point, you could well have anyone who is tech savvy being able to make an AI being, which could in theory be created for evil purposes, or like all the Internet of Things devices which have been abused on Friday to take out DNS for major websites, unintentionally have flaws which can be abused.

We aren't doing very well with making secure technology, look at cars being hacked. I can't see this ever improving either, it's a direct result of our capitalist society. You don't make something secure or provide support for it the moment it isn't financially worth it to you.
