The new iPhone. Anyone gonna buy one?

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 12th September 2017, 22:01

Just been reading the apple event launching the new iPhone, apple watch & revamped iPhone 8.
The 64gb iPhone X will be £999 in the UK & the 256gb £1149.
Some of the new features have been available from other manufacturers for a while, like wireless charging & the edge to edge screen. Can't see much new apart from the face recognition.
If you were going to buy one with your own money, the 64gb looks poor value. Another £150 for four times the capacity looks the better deal, but it seems a ridiculously high cost.
My last two phones have been chinese (both Huawei) while my next phone is on it's way from Hong Kong (a Lenovo P2).
I could buy six & have change for the iPhone X price. Is it really worth it?

To me no.
We've got a washing machine here that has somewhere around 17 programs, we probably use 4.
I've got a Samsung S7 it does everything I want it to do and some other cool sh*t that I may play with and go 'Wow it does that?' but I'll never need or use. It's very easy to get sold on the feature race.

I haven't spoken to him yet but I'm willing to bet my son went to sleep drooling over the prospect of getting the X.
Fine, it's his money to waste but for me I'd rather spend any extra money on a bigger data allowance.

When this cheap Chinese Dougee dies, I may push the boat out and go for a Moto, or depending on what cheap Chinese deal I see at hukd something else, but I'm 100% more likely to spend about £100 than £1000

I was late to the smartphone game, but I still don't see the fuss about "big/good" phones. When at home I'd rather use laptop for facebook, and other web stuff, and on the move, as long as I can msg, maybe speak ;) ,and do a few internet basics I'm happy.

I already know few Americans that want to purchase the new iPhone just to brag about. No I'm not jealous I still have my iPhone 4s lol, I admit I do need to get a new phone waiting for a good deal ,any suggestions? Eh

My iPhone 6S is fine, I really couldn't justify an iPhone 7 upgrade let alone an X.

But I think I may get the iWatch 3! Now it actually works without a phone, it's suddenly more useful to me, and my replacement FitBit Surge strap is bubbling like the first one. :(

Just on the Apple front, having already made my position clear.
Mrs Snaps has an iPhone 5c, mainly because her work phone is a 5c and understandably she doesn't want to change OS every other call.

It died a few days ago but we've resurrected it after a very long call (0800 ) to iphone support.
It said 'Find my iphone' had been used, it hadn't. Then refused to unlock after endless attempts to reset emails and passwords.
Eventually had to do a complete reboot which involved me having to download iTunes  and plug it into the desktop PC.

Snaps, you have my sympathy, I hate iTunes with a passion. I still have an iPod classic as a backup but haven't plugged it into my windows PC because I don't want 2 spend hours updating it.
Rob, re the iwatch, wouldn't having to take your sim out of your phone to put it into the watch, then taking it out of the watch to put it back into the phone drive you crazy? It would me.
