dell "printer,maybe bargain debate"

has anybody who sent emails to dell about this printers cartridges etc.received any feedback from them yet? mine arrived today after waiting for a week or so,printer looks good, includes a usb and all.but am concerned like most other people about cartridges.
can you get a refill kit for these and is it true that you cant fit any other cartridges in the damn thing? would rather send it back but presume they would charge for carriage which would negate the whole process! cheers. :/

sent them an email last week, still waiting for response. I think it is not worth sending back as yu have to pay the return postage.
I think we have a valid point to argue, as the cartridges are clearly labelled as trial pack(they wouldnt send windows xp trial pack with their computer. would they??) or even if they give some trial sofware with their computers like Norton etc they are clearly explained on the website and with your order that those software are 90days trial etc. so why selling printers with trial cartridges without informing cusotmers.

Err...they said they`d include cartridges....and a printer....for a tenner...
(or so I believe as I actually missed the whole thing?)

So...they send "trial pack" ink....AND a USB cable, and a printer for a tenner?

So, even a cheap USB cable at £2, fiver for postage, you get a printer and ink (however small) for around £3?

Still can`t see why anyone would be complaining to be honest, and yeah, every cartridge can be refilled, but some take more work than others (like my Epson Photo 950)

I don`t think you can compare trial ink cartridges and trial versions of software. After all, for software they give you everything you need to try it for a month or 2 before it runs out. With a trial ink cartridge you have the chance to test out the printer, but how much of a trial do they give ? - enough for 10 pages, or enough for a few months. Even with a new printer, I wouldn`t expect to get ink that would last a few months.

The only difference is that with trial software you don`t usually pay up front, so if it is not what you want you just let it expire. With these printers you`ve had to pay upfront and if it is not what you want, your left with a printer that you won`t use.

How many places would charge £10 for a USB cable ? Quite a few, so I`d say look at it as if you bought a USB cable with a trial printer ;-)

Tell me, how does this `trial ink cartridge` thing work? Does every thing you print out suddenly disappear after 15 days? :/ . Is it like that `Magic Ink` you could get in toyshops!

Hi there,

Ref refilling the dell cartridges.

If they are just botched Lexmark ones then the job should be easy. The colour sections might be in a diferent order.

Best wishes

I think what is annoying most people is that by loss leading on the printer Dell expect the " lucky" recipients of the deal to be locked into the grossly overpriced Dell replacement cartridges.
Might I suggest anyone unhappy with Dells unsavoury marketing to do as I intend to ( assuming the printer ever turns up.)... .Give it as a Xmas gift to someone I don`t particularly like. :D :D .

Just to clarify what is meant by "trial size" in this instance;
basically they are very small.
I have never seen a standard size cart for this printer, but by comparison to the cartridges in my HP printer, these trial carts supplied are about a quarter of the size.
I have not used my new Dell printer yet so cannot comment on the permanence of the ink,but I doubt it would fade to invisible after 15 days.
As regards refilling them, due to the size, this operation could be necessary so often as to not make it worthwhile.

After receiving mine and then seeing the comments about the cartridges, I took it along to a car boot sale we did on Saturday - sold it for £17.00!!
