Best place for buying DVDs region 2

VegetableFingers (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 17th July 2005, 13:52

This topic has probably been done to death, but I have just registered and cannot face trawling through all the topics.

I tend to use either Play.com, dvd.co.uk or occassionally cd-wow, but am wondering if there are other sites which can compete on price, customer service and availability.

I recently discovered blahdvd.co.uk which seems pretty decent price wise and the dvd was delivered right away, its just the case was slightly damaged. But then thats nothing new in postal delivery.

recommendations appreciated..

Welcome to you. :)
Try here. This site finds the cheapest and seems the most up to date..

Thanks. Comes up with lots of results. I`m just not sure which are reputable. Can I trust them all?

Yep. They only use recommended ones. I have had no problems.

I use a few Region 2 sites myself...

I have a set of Region 2 sites that I tend to stick with - these are (in no particular order):

www.amazon.co.uk (expensive normally, but their sales can be good - I just scour the sale listings until I hit 19 quid`s worth and then I get free postage e.g. I just bought the 6-disc Buck Rogers Season 1, Honey and Mean Girls and it came at just over 19 quid, which is good value)

www.101cd.com (again, check their never-ending offers, including "DVD deal of the week". Ages ago, I picked up Blake`s 7 Season 1 for 17.99 quid here, which remains by the far the best price I`ve seen for that)

www.play.com (sale offers only - regular stuff isn`t the cheapest. I probably buy more CDs - particularly ones that haven`t had a UK release [yet] - than DVDs from play.com)

www.cdwow.com (some good Region 2 prices, but I tend to buy region 1 or 3 from CD WOW because they`re cheaper)

If the region doesn`t matter to you, then I find that CD WOW (with a checkout voucher taking a pound off) and DVD Soon (I get free postage on most stuff with my iCard) tend to do Region 1 (and 3 for CD WOW) several pounds less than Region 2.

I`ve never bought from Amazon before but they`re seemingly the best place to buy Hayao Miyazaki films as nowhere else seems to supply them really. Region 1 is okay for when I`m at uni but when I`m at home the dvd player is region 2 only. I`d have to think about that.

cd-wow should be the best place for miyazaki films since they sell the R3 ones that aren`t available on R1/R2 as yet.
101cds offers can be iffy since i think they tend to be first come first served and if you miss out on their cheap stock your order can just sit there for ages

I`d like to thank batavia for the link to that dvdprice checker, I was about to purchase the Disney little Mermaid 1 & 2 movie boxset for around £20 (which i thought was a good price to be honest) but with this link it shown I could get it for £16.95 at woolworths. Ive registered but Ive clicked the option for it to be picked up at store so I`m assuming Ive not paid for it yet- your card details are registered- and hopefully they should honour that price when I get there because their instore price were around £5 more than their internet one the other week -about £25 it was £19.99 online, now decreased again.

If your buying a box set avoid play. The packaging is terrible, just a regular jiffy bag which gives them dented corners.
