The MVC in Bath was hanging out the closing down `sale` signs a few days before Christmas. It looked like there had been some stock `clearing` before they wheeled out the sale items mind you. Funny that some months back that store stocked LOTR TT Collectors Edition (with Golum) at £20 and last week it was .... £49.99. ROFL

Yep, all MVCs are to go.

The one by London Bridge has 10% off pretty much everything, 20% off manga DVDs, 30% off music DVDs. Some of those prices are sale anyway, so there is some cheap stuff (I got the new wave of `Director`s series` music vid DVDs £6.99 each), but the shelves are looking a bit threadbare of stock in the 20 and 30% areas. And forget any loyalty points on your MVC card, they`re worthless now and can`t be redeemed.

I spoke to the guy behind the counter, he said a venture capital company that bought the group from Woolworths 18 months ago dropped the ball and MVC is now in receivership. There is a rumour around MVC staff that Music Zone have bought 40 of the 60 stores and will continue to trade from them...

So have a drink to MVC, for a while they were a great store, and THE place to buy stuff before internet shops really got going!

The same appears true in Carmarthen - they are advertising 10-30% off - but the stock seems to be more expensive than previously!!! DVDs from £11.99 were previously priced at £5.99

MVC got what they deserved.
When I started buying dvd`s in 1998 MVC was a great place with their lowest high street prices and you knew that they would be the cheapest.
About 3 years ago something happened and they introduced a ridiculous rip off sytem where you won points, which were practically worthless.
I stopped buying from them soon afterwards when it started getting impossible to find anywhere that wasn`t cheaper than MVC.
Despite the closing down sale our Bedford MVC was still selling virtually all its product at the same stupid prices that got them where they are now in the first place.
Good riddance!!
