FUTUREENT and Import taxes?

Richard_lench (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 26th May 2002, 12:30

I just read on the futureent site that `the price you see is the price you pay, including any taxes`, Does this mean if I bought a R1 boxset, the price includes shipping, postage and covers any taxes?

Im asking because I havent used the site before and have been considering buying Buffy S2. Play have it for £34.99 but this will include import taxes. Futureent also have it for £34.99. Is it better to go with futureent then?

Are they any good?

Futureent are actually personal importers, so they can worry about the customs for you.

In essence, despite the invoice saying otherwise, our DVDs are shipped from Sittingbourne in Kent.

They`re usually okay, in my experience.

I`ve always got on OK with Future, but a friend has recently had a bad experience with them; apparently they ordered a disc and when it didn`t come for ages and ages they got fed up waiting and cancelled the order. Future apparently charged them a cancellation fee; pretty poor stuff seeing as they hadn`t kept up their end of the bargain in the first place. Oh, and they`d debited the card at the time the order was made (as opposed to time of despatch), too...

that is unusual, they don`t usually debit charges until the goods are posted. I`ve ordered over 100 titles from them and, touch wood, never had problems.

That`s a worrying new trend. Technically this is not a legal transaction (CD Wow do it too), but I think I`m fairly forgiving as they are dirt cheap and (another person touching wood) so far I`ve had no problems.

I was aware that they charged a cancellation fee, as they do have to import each title....;-)

I queried CD-WOW debiting my card immediately too. I had Harry Potter on pre-order and expected to be billed when the goods shipped, as is the norm with e-shopping. I asked why they did this, when I asked about the delays with Harry Potter deliveries. This is what they said:

"Billing is immediately initiated when an order is placed, because that is how our payment service provider (Worldpay) operates. They authorise and debit your card simultaneously. We consider the alternative - to store your card details and submit them to Worldpay at a later date - as unsatisfactorily insecure. I trust you`ll agree that offering a safe and secure method of payment system is integral to building consumer confidence in shopping over the Internet, and hope being charged in this way will not deter you from using our site in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best regards"

I was satisfied with that reply, as Prism also use Worldpay to collect their money.

Mark.
