Page 1 of Man Utd flops
Sports Forum
Was talking to a mate the other day and we were both irritated at the way commentators and pundits bleat on about how great the Man Utd youth system is (it produced Beckham, Scholes, Butt and Giggs don`t you know) and how great Ferguson (Sorry SIR Ferguson) is at spotting talent. We both decided to come up with a list of footballers who have played for Man Utd but have turned out to be disasters or distinctly average footballers despite being hyped up as "world class", "a real talent" or "the next George Best". So far the list contains
Luke Chadwick
David Bellion
Jonathan Greening
Darren Fletcher (I know he still plays and is their top scorer this season but lets be honest, he is average)
Massimo Taibi
Giuseppi Rossi
Those two twins currently warming the bench - Rafael and Michaelango
There has to be more though
The 2 twins who`ve just turned 18 last month and have gone straight onto the Man Utd bench? A bit early to be making a judgement on them.
I wouldn`t say that any of these players have ever been classed as world class or the next George Best either. The most I would have heard about them is that they have potential to make it into the first team.
Giuseppi Rossi has been doing very well out in Spain aswell and helped Villarreal to 2nd place last season (Ahead of Barcelona).
I`m uncertain at what your list is aswell as you seem to have randomly gone from a few youth team players who didn`t have the grade in the end to signings like Bellion and Taibi (who was 30 when we signed him).
But seem to have missed players such as Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and many others who are usually the first players on peoples lists of s*** Man Utd signings.

I think that is a bit harsh on Fletcher.
What about Diego Forlan?

I actually liked Diego Forlan (think majority of Man Utd fans did).
He`s unfortunate as I always saw him more as a midfielder, as he played so deep, so he would have suited our current formation much more than the position he played at the time for us.
I believe we actually made money on him in the end aswell, due to his transfer to Athletico last summer.

Ben Thornley came to Aberdeen with all sort of ex Man-Utd tag lines.
"more accurate crosser of the ball than Beckham" etc.etc.
He was s***. :¦
Forlan may not have done that well at Man U, but he`s done bloody well since.

It was him and Grame Tomlinson who are the two players who didn`t make it from the team that had the Neville`s, Scholes, Beckham etc, that didn`t make the grade but had been expected to.
From memory I think Thornley did his cruciate ligaments twice and Tomlinson had a similar injury then had a very bad break in his leg when they came back.

Didnt he score in 6 or 7 games on the bounce when he eventually got a run?? seem to remember something like that, I always thought he was a terrific player who`s face didnt seem to fit for one reason or another
I forgot about another ex Man U `hotshot` we had on loan up here a couple of years back.
I forget his name, young Scottish striker.
His attitude stank, allegedly.
Swanned around the place acting Billy-bigtime.
He got binned rapidly.
What about Diego Forlan?
I believe he was the top scorer in Spain last season, could have been the previous season. I liked him & was sad when he was sold.

I wasn`t doubting his talent, I just thought he wasn`t too good for Man U.
As a side note, I watched the Newcastle v Man Utd game and Alex Ferguson was looking strangely healthy! No red face or nose, maybe he lays off the booze in the close season and just starts drinking more and more as the season progresses!
