Masters Of The Air (AppleTV+)
Some 9 years after it was first announced, last week production finally commenced on the third Hanks/Spielberg-produced WWII mini-series Masters Of The Air.
Based on the book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought The Air War Against Nazi Germany by Donald L. Miller, the series charts the actions of the Eighth Air Force of the United States Army Air Forces during World War II.
Unlike Band Of Brothers and The Pacific (which both aired on HBO), Masters Of The Air will be shown on AppleTV+. Reports suggest a total budget around $200-250 million.
Director of the first three episodes Cary Fukunaga (True Detective Season 1, 007: No Time To Die) took to instagram to celebrate finishing the first week of filming:

I need a new house so I can watch The Pacific... (because I'm sure there will be explosions)
Also I need to get BoB cheap on Bluray!

I've still not watched The Pacific, have the book on my bookcase unread. Watched Band of Brothers a couple of times, and I think I read it as well.
BoB is one of those things that regularly pops up on hotukdeals, i'll try to remember to post in bargains thread next time :) might be worth checking music magpie

RE: Masters Of The Air (AppleTV+)
The Pacific is rather good but a slightly different kind of beast from Band of Brothers.
May well have to get myself a free trial of Apple TV once this has run so I can watch this and Greyhound as the latter is taking its time to release on other platforms...

Finally a morsel of news...

Apple’s long in the works lavish WW2 mini-series “Masters of the Air” has finally set a release date with the series to premiere on Apple TV+ with two episodes on January 26th. Further episodes will roll out weekly through March 15th.
A follow-up to HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” the project hails from executive producers Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman who are producing for Apple Studios, Amblin Entertainment, and Playtone.
Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa lead the cast of the series based primarily on Donald L. Miller’s nonfiction novel.
The story follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the ‘Bloody Hundredth’) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air.

First two episodes are out. Only watched episode 1 so far and it's fairly decent.
I remember watching the first episode of Band of Brothers and feeling almost like I was part of the company because the sense of cameraderie amongst the characters was so strong. This doesn't really have that, but it does establish the characters fairly well.
The airborne scenes are pretty brutal. So often in movies, you see those puffs of black smoke from flak cannons and they only seem to make the ride a bit bumpy. Here they tear planes to shreds.
Those scenes are quite bloody in places...
SPOILER:
I wasn't quite prepared for that shot of the guy with his face half blown off.
Some ropey CG effects in places, though, particularly the landing in Greenland. But mostly it does the job.
I remain somewhat hyped.

Also just one episode in and I think I'm a bit more forgiving of the CG effects than you. Maybe as I grew up with all the B & W war movies on TV when they were all on the Beeb.
You'd have to ask a plane wonk but they seemed to go to pains to get all the process right, check lists, switches, mechanics etc.
Pretty boys in the main lead roles but a good assortment of us ugly/ordinaries in the rest of the roles.
Also still hyped
