Synopsis:
Bhola (Rajesh Khanna) is a village man who lives with his disabled sister and only has one dream, to marry his sister off to a dream groom. But for that you need a dowry (money paid to the groom to take a bride) and lots of it. For his sister, who remains in the village, Bhola travels to the bright city lights to earn his money by playing musical instruments. However luck is not with him and Bhola is finding it difficult to see his dream come true.

That is until fate intervenes with a man called Ranjit (Rajesh Khanna), an exact look alike of Bhola and is everything Bhola isn’t. He`s rich, smart and evil. When both look-a-likes encounter each other, Ranjit, a bigtime thief, decides to use this to his advantage. He pays Bhola lots of money for him to stay in the city with him. With Bhola’s face Ranjit has his alibi and continues to rob away. Bhola unaware of Ranjit’s evil begins to enjoy the highlife and meets a charming young woman who has a crush on him.

Soon after the deceit of Ranjit is found out by the village bumpkin, Bhola becomes trapped and doesn’t know how to get out of it. Once more his sister has come to the city to try and find her brother and what happens next forms the crux of the story...
