RE: `The Shield` on Channel 5
In fairness to C5, it`s getting better.
CSI and Arrest & Trial are both excellent programmes, in fact C5 is by far & away the best channel on a Sat night.
RE: Crime Scene Investigation Boxset £29.99
I`ll also stick up for Channel 5. Not only is CSI an excellent programme but so is Arrest & Trial which follows it.
They also show some excellent documentaries, the current "Kings & Queens" is very good.
It`s Edward 1st tomorrow, good old Longshanks of Braveheart fame, so find out why the Scots hate us English so much!!
RE: Back to the Future AUGUST release(?!?!) and cheapest price DVD`s challenge....
The Royal Tenenbaums at cd-wow is the American version (I think), you can get the Canadian version at dvdsoon cheaper.

The reviews have been mixed....

RE: Website Design Questions
I agree with A.N.
I write web-sites for a living and only cater for 800 * 600.
As was stated earlier you can detect the screen size using javascript and re-direct to the appropriate pages. But it`s not worth the effort.
Just put a message on the home page.... "This site is best viewed in 800*600" ....that`s what most people do.
RE: Series 7: The contenders only £6.33 at Coolashop
They are excellent. A lot are 5.1 and/or DTS.
I have nothing to compare them against but they`re ok as far as I`m concerned!!
RE: Series 7: The contenders only £6.33 at Coolashop
Coolashop are excellent, and so are www.dddhouse.com
I buy loads of stuff from them and have had no prob`s whatsoever.
I got Series 7 from Coolashop as it was sooooo cheap. I liked it, I had read a few mixed reviews but for £6 it was worth the risk.
It`s not your typical Hollywood blockbuster so it may not be to everyone`s taste but I`d recommend it.
I don`t think you get any extras but as most of those are cr*p anyway who cares!
If you don`t like it you can always flog it on e:bay and get your money back.

RE: AOTC gets a PG, and a cut!
I beg to differ on the headbutting.
Personally I would rather it was cut. It`s something you see on many a Friday/Saturday night and should not be `encouraged`. It`s just plain nasty.
As for cutting off heads and arms etc, you don`t see that very often in `real life` and is actually hard to copy.
That is the point the BBFC are making (I think).
RE: Man bites dog
It`s a great film.
It was one of the first I bought on dvd.
RE: Do we really want Celtic and Rangers in the Nationwide League?
At last an interesting topic!
I agree with most people in that I`d prefer not to have Celtic and Rangers in any of the English leagues. Surely it`s best to be a "big fish in a small pond rather than...."
As for the Welsh question. I think it comes down to the history of the England and Wales. The English subjugated the Welsh centuries before Wales had the chance to develop into a viable state (unlike Scotland).
Therefore, for most purposes, be it education, policing etc they are regarded as a single entity
So it`s not really suprising that Welsh sides do play in England.
As for the Scottish Curling team, I`m sure we English are not that desperate for sporting heroes? We did win the World Cup afterall !!

RE: Region 3 discs - some info needed!
I buy loads of stuff from coolashop and dddhouse and the disks are fine.
I bought Battle Royale and Shaolin Soccer for about £8 each and they are excellent in terms of picture and sound.
Who needs extras when you can get two films for the price of one!
Some of the Cat3 stuff can be iffy but you don`t buy it for anamorphic transfers, you buy it `cos is really weird!!
RE: Foreign film recomendations wanted
I agree with Amores Perros and In The Mood For Love.
In my opinion, In The Mood For Love should have one the "Best Foreign Film" Oscar, a class bit of film making!
I`m glad Amelie didn`t win it, a good film but far too twee (IMO).
Some more modern ones to look out for....
Monsoon Wedding (Indian)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0265343
The Dinner Game (French)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0119038
Harry, Here to Help (French)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0216800
Look out for these starring Takeshi Kitano who was in Battle Royale:
Sonatine (Japanese)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0108188
Violent Cop (Japanese)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0098360
A few more...
Audition (Korean)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0235198
Shaolin Soccer (Hong Kong)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0286112
Some older ones but nevertheless great films...
The Hairdresser`s Husband (French)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0100112
Antonia`s Line (Danish)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0112379
Funny Games (Austrian)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0119167
Man Bites Dog (Belgian)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0103905
lastly...
Le Reine Margot (French)
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0110963
All these are great films (IMO) and would look good in anyones` dvd collection!!
Even a more scary thought...
...what if Andy Cole is called up?
Heaven help us !!!
I`m off to find some Irish Grandparents just in case !!!

It actually looks like a good film !

RE: Every issue of Empire ever....
I have all editions as well. I`d hate to pay the shipping cost !
dvd soon any good?
I was tempted to buy r1 version of The Usual Suspects (SE) for £11.75 but I have not used them before.
Are they any good?
The Usual Suspects, SE Region 1 or 2?
cd-wow have r1 for £12.99 and play247 have r2 for 15.99.
Is the extra £3 worth it or should I get the r1 version?
RE: DDDhouse returns - any point?
Yes very much so.
You need to send them an e:mail to let them know you are returning something.
All they will want is the dvd itself wrapped in something. They will not want the case.
I returned a dvd to them. I sent mine in a Jiffy bag wrapped in tissue paper.
I got a replacement plus `The Mexican` and `Unbreakable` free.
They are an excellent site and I`ve bought loads of stuff from them without any problems.
So it`s worth it !

RE: LE PLACARD (and other French films)
Here is another film by the same director:
Le Dîner de cons
http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0119038
I`d also recommend this film:
Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien
http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0216800
I have both on dvd, they`re great films which I think only the French can pull off !
RE: URL required for comparing hardware prices
Thanks that`s the one.
URL required for comparing hardware prices
Someone posted a few days ago a URL to a site for comparing all sorts of hardware prices including computers, dvd players, home cinema systems etc.
I can`t seem to find it, can someone please re-post it.
I remember seeing the Sony HTK215 for £206 which I thought was an excellent price or was I dreaming?
RE: Would you buy a DVD that was non-anamorphic ?
I have a mix of both types, and to be honest, I can`t tell the difference.
RE: Battle Royale Any good?
Get the region 3 version. It`s a lot cheaper.
I borrowed a surround system and it sounded great.
The film itself is ok, I wouldn`t pay a lot for it though, so £9 from dddhouse or coolashop is not a bad price.
RE: Which
I have to agree with "The Battle of Algiers", a great film.
"Flight of the Pheonix" is another top film, it has one of my favourite actors in it, Hardy Kruger, who played Oberleutnant Franz von Werra aka, the "One that got away":
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0050803
The only German prisoner of war taken in Britain during the Second World War who escaped from numerous British POW camps and got back to Germany.
Ah, prisoner of war films, what about "The McKenzie Break" or even "Escape to Victory" which I think is great but lots of people think is pants.
RE: What should I get out of this lot????
I have the Toshiba sd110e and I think it`s an excellent player.
I beg to differ on the looks of the Toshibas. I think they look great, there are no unsightly knobs etc which you never use
I like the minimilist look but I know it`s not to everyone`s tastes.
The remote is small and easy to use.
You can get it multi-region for £140 from www.electrocentre.com
They also do the sd210e for £170 multi-region.
RE: Can someone identify this film....
Thanks.
That`s the one. I`m impressed as I have wanted to know the name of that for years.
Can someone identify this film....
I remember seeing it about `82 (may have been a tv movie) about a cruise liner that had capsised.
It turns out that there were 2 huge air pockets and people had been living inside the sunken ship for years (I don`t know why they didn`t try to get out).
One set of people were quite civilised whereas the other had turned feral but they didn`t know about each other, until.....
It was a bit like `Lord of the Flies` except under water.

RE: Which
Nice to see an Alain Delon film has made the list (Borsalino).
I know you can get a few of his films on DVD but as yet I`ve not found "Le Samouraï " :
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0062229
He`s the cinematic embodiment of `cool` !!
I`ve just noticed that "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" had Eric Thompson in it who, as we all know, is the father of Emma and the narrator of `The Magic Roundabout`.
Anyway, time for bed.....

RE: Which
Someone above mentioned "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia", a top film starring Warren Oates who is very underrated in my view.
I`d add another one of his films to this list, "Race with the evil", also starring Peter Fonda, scared the sh*t out of me when I first saw it and it still does.
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0073600
I`d also add this little gem starring Joe Don Baker "The Shadow of Chikara", I saw it about 20 yrs ago on tv, again it left a lasting impression on me. Ignore the review, I think it`s a cracking film.

RE: Is modyfying worth it?
I have this player multi-region. I don`t know if it has macrovision disabled or not.
In fact, I don`t even know what macrovision is therefore it can`t be THAT important.
I`d keep the player and pay the £50. I don`t think it is worth selling it as the price of this player has dropped quite a lot recently. I have seen it for £140 multi-region inc. delivery.
So I don`t think you would get that much for it.
I think Toshiba are phasing out this player.
I think it`s an excellent player, I am happy with mine and have no intention of upgrading.
