Is the japanese movie Battle Royale any good? Cause I heard it a very good movie but is the dvd any good. Also whats the cheapest place to get it (region 2)
I really enjoyed it, although you have to be fairly broad-minded as the idea is a little far-fetched, if not a little scary :-)
If you have a multi-region player the best place to get it is http://www.dddhouse.com - the dts soundtrack is excellent !
I don`t believe it has been released on R2 yet.
Tis out, on tartan I think. The region 3 version is Bare bones but less than £10 inc p & p. The Region 2 edition only has limited extras mind for at least £5 more excluding p & p.
Mind you region 3 is non anamorphic with DTS, 5.1 or surround sound and Region 2 is anamorphic but only digital 2.0. As my system is standard 21" tv and a couple of pc speakers I just went for the one that was available at the time.
The film itself is good, the only character of any depth is the teacher but that may be because its Beat Takeshi (any of his films are worth buying) and the kids mostly last just long enough to die in various ways.
The main problem with the plot is the question of how randomly selecting the class to die is going to improve the behaviour of your average kid, it won`t but don`t worry about it. The japanese version of Sid Vicious Junior is mad and the welcoming video is a riot.
Me I`m waiting for the release of Testuo I and II in April and Dead or Alive by MiikeTakashi who did Audition (the former being a mad gangster film with no needles or saws )
It is released on region 0 which means that it will run on any dvd player... Its quite good actually
Get the region 3 version. It`s a lot cheaper.
I borrowed a surround system and it sounded great.
The film itself is ok, I wouldn`t pay a lot for it though, so £9 from dddhouse or coolashop is not a bad price.
Has anyone been able to rent this and other foreign language films (amores perros??)?
Blockbuster don`t seem to do them... Who does??
RE: Battle Royale Any good?
