RE: Kodak Give in!!!!!!

Only a couple of things to say regarding this matter.

To all those people who replied to the original post slating those of us who were trying to get the camera for what Kodak had advertised it for, calling us many names and taking the p***.......I now have have just under £400 worth of digital camera equipment for only £100......and you don`t. Have it!

Childish, I know. At least this shows that you don`t have to let yourself get pushed around by these huge companies who think they can do pretty much what they want. One for the little people I think.

Playing MP3s on the Toshiba 210e, what bitrate?

Hi, does anyone know what bitrate mp3`s have to be in order to play on the Tosh? I have real audio jukebox and the highest quality it has available is 96 kps. I don`t want to transfer my cds using 96 bitrate if I can`t play them. Anyone have any idea?

Cheers

Best Bargain website - ideas anyone?

Hi guys, I`m considering setting up a website that details the best bargains to be found on the web. Initially the site will be focused on DVDs, players, etc... but hopefully we`ll be able to broaden the scope to include many more things at a later stage.

If you guys had access to a site like this what would you want from it? just the best bargains or a comparison of all prices found?
a search facility so we could find the item you want at the best price?
reviews of movies, discs on site?
reviews of the various sites where you can purchase your DVDs?
a search for the item on eBay?

Anything you think should be on a website like this let me know. Any other ideas/thoughts would also be greatly appreciated.

The site is not a plan to make money just a plan to bring all the best bargains together on one site for everyone to access.

Thanks

NTSC to PAL converters

I have recently bought a Tosh sd210 e and have discovered to my dismay that my TV is not ntsc compatible. I have heard that you can get converters but have no idea how much they are or where the best place to buy is.

Does anyone have one of these?
are they worth the money?
how much do they cost?
Do they work ok?
Where can I get one from?

Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

RE: Forrest Gump is available right now for £8.99 (2 disc). Buy it quick!!!

I think they rotate the sale stock and the web pages showing. I have been to the site stacks recently and have only seen FG and SPR once. Last night they rotated at about 10pm. You just have to keep checking their sale items as often as you can.

TV could play R1 in colour and now it can`t! Have new player, any ideas?

Hi, Another problem with my new DVD player (damn it). I now have glorious sound and vision after seeking advice on the forum so i`m hoping you`ll save me from having to buy a brand new TV.

Had a borrowed Samsung multi region DVD player hooked up to TV and vision was fine for R1 DVDs but I had no sound with any DVDs.

Decided to buy brand new Tosh sd201e. Had problems with sound which are now sorted. However, when I try to play a R1 DVD the picture is black and white. The TV should be compatible as it played R1 in colour using the Samsung. Did the Samsung convert to NTSC to PAL which meant my TV could play R1 without being NTSC compatible? Is the multi region Tosh I have bought faulty? I would have thought the Tosh could have converted the signal automatically. I can`t find a switch on the back and I have tried selecting RGB in the set up all to no avail.

I have a friend coming today with a PS2 and direct X disc so hopefully I`ll see later for certain whether the TV can handle NTSC signal. If the TV is fine does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be something to do with the player being a R2 machine that was modified? Would the modification have altered the signal aswell or would it have left me with a player that is unable to send out NTSC signals?

Again, your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Barry

PS: When I play a R1 disc the picture is not a perfect black and white picture, it is quite grainy.

Need urgent advice regarding audio problem! Please help!!

Hi, I finally decided on a multi region Toshiba sd210e. I connected it up and awaited the glorious sound and visual experience that swayed me to the Tosh. The vision is amazing but the sound.....nothing.

There is virtually no sound what so ever. I have connected straight forward scart to scart. You can just about hear the sound when the sound is on max on the TV. Again I have nothing using the cables that were enclosed with the player (analog). I have a Scart with video cables coming out aswell as the other Scart. I have tried connecting these to the Hi Fi and again the sound is barely audiable.

What am I doing wrong? Unfortunately the instruction manual is in French and German, of which I speak or read neither. I have switched between Bitstream, Analog and PCM. I imagine analog is just the cables, bitstream is scart to scart and PCM is scart to cable. Is this right? I still have no sound. I missing half of the experience, I must have sound. Please, please help me.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Can help me?

RE: Kodak digital camera worth £300 for £100 PLUS loads of accessories

I`m gonna give them a call tomorrow and obtain a name and address for complaints. As soon as I get it I`ll post it on here. The idea about a general letter which we could personalise is excellent (because i`m naff at writing decent complaint letters). By the looks of things, the more fuss we kick up the more likely we are to get a result.

PS Excellent article by the way Dan

RE: KODAK OFFER/SHAM - PLAN OF ACTION

Hi, ordered one aswell, how do you know it`s a sham? have they mailed you yet? I haven`t heard a thing from them. I thought i`d be pretty lucky to get it at that price but if they haven`t contacted anyone yet I still might be lucky.

Baz

ok, another offer i`ve found - The Matrix - £7.99 inc. p&p

So here`s another offer i`ve found on my trawl for bargains. The offer is with uk.playstation.com.

http://shop.uk.playstation.com/search_results.jhtml?CATID=3000067&SEARCH_TYPE=2&VIEW_ALL=T&CATEGORY_CATID=3000067&_DARGS=%2Fsub_cat_nav_bar.jhtml_A&_DAV=1

They`ve got some decent films at mucg lower prices than eBay and any other site i`ve seen. Pretty much all the movies are £7.99 and include post and packing. Some titles are listed below:

The Matrix,
The Patriot,
Men in Black,
Jaws,
Taxi Driver,
The Mummy,
Ghostbusters,
Desperade & El Mariachi,
As Good as it Gets,

Haven`t been able to find these cheaper anywhere else on the net. At £7.99 these are cheaper here than from eBay.

Hope this is more to your liking than the play 247 offer posted earlier. (Ungrateful or what) :c)

Cheers

RE: Which player..

For the £150 mark I would personally go with the Toshiba sd110e.

http://www.webelectricals.co.uk/cgi-bin/webelectricals.storefront/EN/Product/1294%262D1

It`s the model down nut I think it`s still supposed to be one of the best players for that price.

Haven`t investigated players around the £150 range so any other advice that you guys can give would be much appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Kodak digital camera worth £300 for £100 PLUS loads of accessories

Well have gone for it aswell. Have recently been ripped off on eBay buying a DVD player, lets hope this is better. Lets also hope they don`t bill my credit card £300 and lets also hope the company they are using to sell them don`t go bust on Monday morning. Well, life`s a lottery and all that.

RE: Which player..

Hi Dave, I`m searching for DVD player myself so I`ll share what i`ve managed to learn so far.

For around the £200 mark I think the 3 best are probably Toshiba sd210e, Pioneer dv-444 and Sony ns300.

All three can be obtained multiregion off various websites but none can be hacked with a remote.

Amazon.co.uk is the place i`ve found the Tosh the cheapest (£169.99) but I`m not convinced it`s multiregion. The best site is Web Electricals (http://www.webelectricals.co.uk/cgi-bin/webelectricals.storefront/EN/Product/1295%262D2)
where it costs £189.99 with free next working day delivery and it is definitely multi region.

The best place for the Pioneer dv-444 is probably Hifibitz.co.uk (http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/Warehouse/details.asp?ProductID=PIODV444BK) where the player is £179.99 with free uk delivery and is definitely multi region.

For the Sony I think Web Electricals is probably the best site again (http://www.webelectricals.co.uk/cgi-bin/webelectricals.storefront/EN/Product/1112%262D3) where the player is £179.99 and is definitely multiregion.

Personally I think for an extra tenner the Toshiba is the best bet. I`ve noticed on here a few complaints about a noisy drive and having not heard one myself can`t comment. Can`t be any worse than VHS or my pc though. The sound and vision, which is surely what counts, is supposed to be amazing and by far the best for a player around the £200 mark.

The Pioneer apparently has a slight problem with pauses occasionally through the movies and sometimes text will appear on screen. If you`ll be playing normal cds the sound is apparently not fantastic either.

Can`t comment too much on the sony because i`ve only really looked seriously at the other two. Sony are normally overpriced so to get a Sony player as good as the Tosh you`d probably have to pay an extra £100.

One last thing i`ve learnt from browsing the forums is to steer clear of techtronics.co.uk. I`ve yet to find a decent review of them.

Hope this is helpful to you and anyone else looking for a decent DVD player out there.

Is Toshiba sd210e multi region out of the box?

Hi. I`m currently about to buy my first DVD player and have decided on the Tosh 210. The cheapest places I have found it do not state whether the player is multi region. From a few reviews and sites I have come across it seems the player is Multi region out of the box but I have seen a few people on here asking about chips for it. Can anyone confirm whether the player is definately multi region. I`m currently looking at getting it from Amazon (£170) where they don`t state what region or BE direct (I think) (£190) which states multi region.

I`m in a confused state and would love to be watching DVDs on the sofa rather than sitting on an office chair in front of my puter. Please help guys.
Cheers

RE: PC-DVD ROM Hacks?

I`m not sure whether it can be reset but if you search for a programme called DVD Genie on the net you can play any region. All you have to do is select the region of the DVD you want to play and select the programme you use to view the DVD and then just play the DVD.

Thinking about it, it may just be the programme you are using to view the DVDs that is stuck on R2 not your actual DVD drive. I got stuck on region 2 with PC friendly but could still view R1 DVDs with Win DVD. Best bet though is to download DVD Genie, I`ve had no probs with it.

Which DVD Player to buy for £200?? Advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Guys, i`m looking at buying a DVD player. I`m currently swaying towards the Toshiba SD210 or the Sony NS300 but before I buy I was hoping for some advice.

1. I`ve heard mixed things about whether the Tosh is multi region out of the box. DVD review mag states it is and so do a couple of web sites. A couple of other sites state it isn`t. Can anyone confirm whether it is or is not multi region out of the box.

2. I`ve heard the same thing about the sony, can someone confirm this aswell, thanks.

3. Anyone got any further advice? any other players for around the £200 mark that would be better? I`m looking for a multi region player and I`ll only use it for DVDs.

4. I`ve also been reading about the new RCE coding. What sort of effect is that likely to have? As the Tosh selects the region automatically could it mean that in the future I won`t be able to play any DVDs. I`ve read that selecting manually i.e remote hack, will mean no probs but if the player selects the region automatically it will have problems playing them.

5. I`ve also heard that the Tosh won`t play The Phantom Menace. Is that true? Is it anything to do with the RCE thing?

Thanks very much for the help.
