RE: Pentax optio s55 £150 @ Booots £50 cheaper than jessops
I`ve had a Pentax before myself and I can confirm that the shutter lag between each shot was abysmal! Yes 5 seconds is a very realistic wait before taking the next shot. I also found that indoor shots left a lot to be desired. I had a Pentax 33LF.
RE: independent saturday free Swimming with Sharks
Its a very good film actually and one worth actually worth getting the paper for. Spacey is excellent in it as a boss from hell.
RE: Free 50 MP3s
Rights guys, I`ve signed up. It`s very specalised stuff and not your commercial releases. A lot of old stuff. Its very good for Jazz and blues if you`re into it. Don`t expect the latest releases or the top artists but if you like your alternative or specialised stuff, this is not bad at all and very easy to use.
Personally I`ve just downloaded Ray Charles Essenstial Collection and his last album, Genius Loves Company.
For those who can stand them, both The Streets album is on there. Not my cup of tea. If you`re into indie bans Bloc Party or the New Porngraphers, their latest albums are also on there.
Personally, looks like I will use up my 50 downloads and unsubscribe.
RE: Canon A85 digital camera £99 at Argos
Thats crap news about it going back up to £149! Hmmm may have only been a Bank Holiday special then but it was £99 yesterday when I posted yesterday. Shucks, hope some of you got it in time.
Canon A85 digital camera £99 at Argos
Yes its the last generation but the A85 always had great reviews and at £99 its an absolute steal! 4MP and 3X zoom, uses NIMHs and CF card which are dead cheap these days for a 1GB card. Remember good lens is more important than pixel count.

RE: In car kenwood mp3/wma cd player @ £66.59
Rehan,
yes they do resume at the point you left the track. I had a Kenwood MP3 player before (now onto a JVC one) and when you switch off engine, and back on again it resumes in the same place it left. Its no different froom playing a CD in a car, except maybe a slight lag whilst the decoder reads the disc (as its compressed).
RE: Boots: Minolta Dimage Z10 (3MP, 8x optical zoom) Ј90 - further discounts also available
Is it me or has Boots removed both these cameras? I was really interested in getting a Z10. Did anyone managed to get one?
RE: Collateral 2 Discer for £4.22
Thanks for the tip! Got it for £3.99 after using a £1 link and £1 voucher! Been looking for this film on the cheap for ages. CD-Wow do have some stonking deals from time to time.
RE: Free £3 Amazon Voucher
Nope, no conditions, you just have to get the email from them, and its their way of saying thank you.
Free £3 Amazon Voucher
Not sure if anyone else has had the email but Amazon are giving away a £3 voucher for anyone who gets the email with a link to a survey about DVD rentals. It takes about 2-5 minutes to complete. Might not be much but still good for some cheapy CD or DVD especially if you buy over £19 when you get the free delivery.
RE: Free Orange upgrade
Not sure if you guys know this but one way I find that is quite easy to upgrade for AND stay on the same network is to port your number over to a Virgin PAYG account for a month or so and then just port back that number to your original network but get a new contract. Now I havent done this myself, but I have known others to do it and it depends on the networks T and Cs whether they allow you to re-join as a new customer after porting your number elsewhere.
RE: Ever met anyone famous?
Im walking proof that people win competitions! I won the Yahoo competition about 2 years ago to the LA Premiere of Charlies Angels 2: Full Throttle. Yes crap film, but I did get to go to the after show party and bumped into most of the stars of the films inc Drew and Lucy Liu, didnt get close to Cameron Diaz though. Others there inc Bernie Mac, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore, Matt le Blanc, the whole of No Doubt, Pink, Jerry Hall, Daryl Hannah, Kevin Smith, and then the likes of Sharon/Kelly Osbourne and Hammer (remember him?). Stood right next to Jamie Foxx and Jessica Simpson as we were entering the aftershow party. Never ever got so close to any Hollywood stars ever.
Over in the UK, I was in the last Bond film as an extra so got to meet Pierce Brosnan.
Tesco DVD Rental service provided by Video Island
Not sure if I am right or wrong here but been having a ongoing email with Tesco DVD Rental customer service about their supposed 14 day free trial. Lets put it this way, if you have NEVER used Video Island before but have used Screen Select, you can`t get the trial, but Tesco doesnt mention anything about the merger between the 2 companies hence you can`t get a free trial.
Wasnt too bothered about the free trial but more about the principle, which they have took more than 1 1/2 months to come back to me about. Some customer service that was. Since gone back to Blockbuster as their service is very effecient.
If you want to read the whole thread, read below.
============== Email Thread =============
Hi Michael,
Thank you for the reply which I was not expecting after waiting a whole month for a response. Please do not think I am in any way trying to get a free trial off Tescos for the sake of it as I have gone beyond that point now and rejoined Blockbuster (only 2-3p cheaper) as to me they have a better turnaround in customer response via email.
I do however object to the fact that although Tesco is using the Video Island engine, there is nowhere in your Terms and Conditions, stating that ex-Screen Select (which has now merged with Video Island) customers, are also excluded from the free 14 day trial. I find this to be misleading as I originally pointed out in my original email (see below). Whilst I do appreciate that if I was an ex-Video Island customer, my application would and should have been refused, to be then told that I have already had a Video Island trial is very misleading, when I never joined Video Island before. As a web developer myself (and one that works on many e-commerce websites and writes many T&Cs), I strongly urge Tesco to change its terms and conditions to say that both ex-Video Island and ex-Screen Select subscribers are excluded from the offer to avoid confusion and wasted applications in the future.
You say that it is not an incentive, but please bear in my mind that many people are willing to try out a service for a limited period to see how fast the service and how good the customer service is. They then usually make the choice of choosing to stay or leave. I have been with Lovefilm (previously DVDsOnTap) and Blockbuster (which I have since rejoined) for a year each and that is down to customer service response alone.
Although, I do not expect to hear from you soon, and I am NOT writing (or moaning) so that I can get a free trial, I do hope you will take on board the constructive criticisms I have noted since my original email. Please feel free to forward this email to the person in charge of the joint venture between Tescos and Video Island/Screen Select.
Kind Regards,
Ray Liu

Dear Ray
Thank you for your e-mail.
We do appreciate the fact that you were not aware of the outsourcing of the DVD rental service to Video Island Entertainment, hence our explanatory e-mail to you after registration.
We`re sure that you will appreciate that as a company we are trying to offer an efficient service at at an affordable rate. In order to pass on the value to our customers, it is not feasible to offer more than one free trial per household.
The purpose of the free trial is not so much an incentive as it is to familiarise potential customer`s to how the online DVD rental service operates.
We feel that as the cheapest online DVD rental service provider with the biggest catalogue of titles, we are effectively the best value for money to you, our valued customer.
Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or queries or if you`re ready to go ahead as a paying subscriber.
Kind Regards,
Michael

I have NEVER been a member of Video Island at all and never have used their services so I was thinking I would get a free 14 day trial due to the attractive prices compared to ScreenSelect and Blockbuster.
>
> So to be fair, your T and Cs should have stated `previous members of ScreenSelect OR Video Island` and not Video Island as they do not exist anymore as a website. I and I presume a lot of other users in the same situation as me, find this to be quite misleading as they are not supposed to know that Video Island has merged with ScreenSelect hence they cant get a free trial from Video Island.

RE: Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op
Actually Im not sure it comes with teletext. Bought one for my mum and I live seperately from her so I havent had that much of a play on the machine aside from initially. Anyone else confirm?
RE: Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op
Hi guys, I know there is now a better deal on the other thread (for £59.99) but if you are still interested in getting the Hikona 14" TV/DVD then Tesco have dropped the price again to £69.97 :)
And just to prove it, I took a snapshot of the price tag on my camera phone on Saturday in the Ponders End Tescos Extra store (near Enfield) Click Here
Multi-Region straight out of box as well.
RE: Tesco DVD Rentals - Free Thelma and Louise DVD
Sorry to be the Party Pooper, but I tried to join just before Xmas when they had the free Meet Joe Black offer and they turned me down because I had been with ScreenSelect before. And at the time, it says its service was provided by Video Island. They merged (for those that didnt know) and I never been a customer of Video Island, so I wrote to them to state this but never heard anything back from them. Just thought ex-SS customers should know.
RE: Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op
I havent got the receipt to hand as I gave it to my mum as its her proof of purchase/warranty for the TV. I bought it in the Tesco Extra store in Beckton. If you look it up on their site, you could give them a call to see if they still do it at that price. I bought it straight after Xmas for £69.99 but considering the Jan sales might be drawing to a close, they might well have put it back up to the previous price of 89.99. If I see my mum soon, I get the receipt off her and scan it in.
RE: Cello 14" TV/DVD combi - multiregion for £79.99 at the Co-Op
I think this is the same one sold in Sainsburys for £89.99. I bought one for my mum just before Xmas but took it back last week as it smelled funny (plastic smell) and MORE importantly, Tesco Extra stores do the same unit under the name of Inktomi (or Hiktomi or something like that) for ONLY £69.99 which is dead cheap. So I bought that one instead and saved £20.
IT IS the same machine, even down to the menu system and remote control. They are both multiregion out of the box (I tried R1, R2, R3) The only thing different is the encasing and badging. Just thought I let you all know.
Suggestion for a Multi Region DVD System (all in one)
Hi all,
recently been given up to £300 to spend on a new DVD system. Currently have a old LG 4950 DVD player and no surround sound system, so Im hoping to get a all in one solution. It must be multiregion and it be able to play MP3 (and hopefully WMA) files as well as show JPEG discs. DivX would be good but im not sure if many of the systems have it yet, so not a show stopper.
So far I have been tempted by the Panasonic SCHT520 deal at Richer Sounds for £179.95 (OK it hasnt got all the features but has most) but before I part with my money, wanted to know if anyone has any better suggestions. Has anyone here got the SCHT520? Seems like a good price for a whole system.
BTW, what happened to the smaller size (i.e. Micro) DVD systems, a year or 2 ago, there were plenty by the likes of Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic etc but the trend at the moment seems to be be full size systems.
Thanks in advance!
RE: Fujifilm S3000 for £99 at PC World
OK guys, please accept my apolgies. Seems my friend gave me wrong info. I went into my local PC World and it was £129 as well. Somehow not that atrractive now. Will remind myself in future not to post until 100% confirmed.
RE: 40% off everything at Virgin
Just went into Islington branch and what a joke. Not much of a bargain at all to be honest. All the CDs and DVDs are all overpriced. I mean Fight Club was at 19.99 and even with 40% that would have been more expensive than HMV`s buy 2 for £20.
Not worth it.
RE: Fujifilm S3000 for £99 at PC World
Have to check this out myself tonight when I go past one (at work at the moment) Am going to shoot my friend if he has been telling me porkies!
Fujifilm S3000 for £99 at PC World
Thought I might let out the news one day in advance. From tomorrow (11th August 2004), PC World will be selling off the remainder of the Fujifilm S3000 stock for £99. In Store offer only apparently and whilst stocks last. Cracking 3.2MP camera with 6X Optical Zoom. Source of this information? My mate works at PC World.
0870 242 0444, do a stock check for your nearest store!
RE: Returner R2 £6.99 at Play.
I agree. I bought the R3 as well and the picture quality was poor compared to the R2 version which I rented first. Was a lot more grainy and blurred.
Kodak EasyShare LS633 £99
Another 3.1MP digital camera bargain. I like the 2.2 OLED screen. Reading on the T3 website, this has been given a good write up. For £99, might make a nice present.

RE: Canon PowerShot A80 £199
I saw the camera in a Jessops store (Islington) today for £179 :)
RE: Blockbuster DVD rental by post, free one month trial!
Yup, using this already. They are very good for sending out in the order that you specify. I guess this is due to the number of copies they have of the new titles. Its a good package for £13.99 a month for 3 discs at a time instead of only 2 disc from MovieTrak who I was before. Best thing is they get the titles straight away when they are released unlike some DVD rental services. Recommended (especially the free month)
PC World - Fujifilm F410 £149 (7 days only)
Heres another great camera bargain (it`s all happening at the moment). Only on til
1/6/04. Fujifilm F410 WITH cradle for only 149! My friend has one of these and they are great compact cameras. All metal body means build quality is very good. OK not as many manual features as the A70 but has the added benefit of interpolerated 6MP output from a 3.1MP CCD (using Fuji`s SuperCCD HR). My friend has one of these and Ive used it before, doddle to use. My current digicam is a fuji as well and I have to say their interface is so user friendly.
Full details on homepage of www.pcworld.co.uk
Im going to have a hard time this bank holiday deciding which camera to upgrade to! Its between A70 and the F410 at the moment!
ATTN: Londoners! GAME in Islington 20% all Chart Titles
GAME has just opened a store in Islington and from 23rd-25th April all chart games and DVDs are 20% off. 10% off all other games and accessories. I`m not sure if it applies to hardware though.
