RE: Which DVD Writer? (LG GSA-4163B, NEC 3540, or Pioneer DVR-109
As regards the NEC vs Pioneer ... I remember reading somewhere that NEC manufacture the electonic bit for Pioneer and they`re almost the same.
RE: Advice on pubs in London ...
I`ve only been in the one inside Victoria last year sometime. Whereabouts is the one outside?
RE: Advice on pubs in London ...
Hmm ... And where exactly is The Bricklayers. North London perhaps?
RE: Whats ur great movie line....to rate best words from pictures
Any line, and I mean any, from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ... "Look, there`s two women f**king a polar bear."
Oh, and even though it isn`t really a film anything from "Mr Jolly Lives Next Door" ...
Advice on pubs in London ...
Me and 2 mates are travelling over (from NI) to London tomorrow to watch Chelsea play (and beat) Portsmouth. No comments please!
We`re staying in the Victoria area. Does anyone have any recommendations for good drinking hostelries. Preferably somewhere "down to earth" and with some decent music, as opposed to the kind of places where the drinks scowl at your shoes.
RE: Best/worst product placement in a film(most blatant)
My vote goes to the Philishave in Die Another Day ...
RE: Smoking Ban - or is it a food ban?
For info ... all Government buildings here in NI are to impose a total smoking ban from January 2005. Staff can`t smoke at the entrance to the building or withing a designated distance from the entrance. No messing about ...
A total ban from smoking in public places in England or nothing. It just won`t work. Just another example of half-hearted policy making by our leaders.
RE: Reducing MP3 File Sizes
Try this ...
sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/
... and its free. If you choose to encode the MP3 at a low bitrate, the filesize should be much smaller.
RE: Best films to watch on Christmas Eve to get you into the spirit?
Miracle on 34th Street ... the original.

RE: The Official Star Wars Trilogy Thread - all others will be closed !
Just watched Ep IV so far.
The Han walking on Jabba scene annoyed me ... but then it always has since they film was re-released. It`s just so poorly done.
But what really annoyed me was the Stormtrooper banging his head on the door blooper. Have they added a intentional "clunk" sound effect? It`s laughable, all it needs is some canned laughter and it could be shown on You`ve Been Framed.
Of course, they haven`t fixed the other blooper when Luke jumps from his X-Wing after the Death Star battle. Leia calls him "Luke" and he replies "Carrie". Obviously, the "Luke" is on the subtitles ... the "Carrie" isn`t.
Off to watch Ep V tonight ...
RE: Suggestions for a DVD for son`s birthday party
Since this thread has turned into a Iron Giant one ... I`ll add my tuppence.
Yes, my favourite cartoon-type film. I watched it on Sky 3 times before I gave in and bought it. Then I was blown away by the 5.1 sound. The noise when the giant runs toward the lake before jumping in, is superb.
I think I read somewhere that Ted Hughes wrote it for his children to help them get over the death of their mother. All together ... awww.
Buy it and tell someone else.
RE: Where do you buy blank dvd`s from
I recommend www.svp.co.uk ... very cheap.
RE: nokia 3100, any good?
I have a 3100. It`s a good little phone. I haven`t really had any problems with it.
The "hands free" microphone/speaker, means that you can speak to someone very cleary if you put it on the dashboard in front of you. Of course, I only use that feature when I`m not driving ... ahem.
RE: How dodgy are you?
Erm ... 41 years in prison + £7000 fine
RE: Having two Hard drives installed?
The other thing to remember is that if you have two HDs in a master/slave config, they will only operate at the speed of the slower drive ...
Eg. Master: 133 UDMA + Slave: 100 UDMA means they will both run at 100.

RE: whats the most embrassing thing you have done on a works do/course?
Last year two of us travelled to "the mainland" (from NI) for a three day course. As was, and still is, normal ... after the course finishes for the day, we retired to the nearest drinking establishment for the remainder of the day.
On the first night we found ourselves in a pub which had a display of promotional postcards. I had a pen and, coincidentally, my colleague had a book of stamps. I can actually still see the lightblub illuminate ... We wrote 6 postcards to our colleagues, put stamps on them and then posted them on the way back to the hotel. Over breakfast the next morning, the only thing we could remember was that we hadn`t been too complimentary about our colleagues. Panic and fear of losing our jobs set in. A few phonecalls later, we managed to contact our internal couriers and asked for a very big favour. I still get called "Postcards" ...
RE: Nero 5.5.10.7 & Pioneer 108 set up.
I think you need to download an updated list of compatible CD/DVD writers from the Nero website.
However, I did hear that the v5 of Nero wasn`t the best for burning DVDs. Might be worth upgrading to v6.

RE: Spangles - Aztec Bars - Bazooka BubbleGum - where do all the old sweets go and why?
The nostalgia peeps over at TV Cream have a good section on old sweets ...

RE: Eye problems...
Gavski,
I think I know what`s wrong with u.
If it`s a semi-opaque bit appearing above the original sign or anything ... then it`s informally called ghosting. It`s very rare and caused by a stigmatism in ur eyes. If u wear specs, it can be cured by wearing contacts. The nearer the lense to ur eyes, the less bit will appear. I have it, and it really bugs me ... but there nothing I can do about it, so I just live with it. Just don`t tell my car insurance company!

RE: Help with favourites list in IE6!
You can only sort them alphabetically. To do this click Start, go into Favourites, right click and sort by name.
Any help?
LOTR: TTT
Dear Mr Lucas,
I`ve just seen Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. One word, Gollum ... that`s how to create a great CGI character.
You have much to learn my old Padawan.
Yours, etc.

The Osbournes
I hear that the DVD is due for release this Autumn.
Does anyone have details of the specs and whether it`s available on pre-order anywhere?
RE: What do you have on order?
Choagy, where did you get the Ealing comedies? Are you one of the lucky ones for whom the Amazon voucher worked?
I have BTTF and We Were Soldiers on order. Although, the latter should be arriving this week!
RE: Has any one seen the time machine ????
Yeah I agree. Go and buy the original. It`s a far better film.
Don`t even entertain this 2nd-rate remake! I`ll stop now before my post evolves into a rant ...
RE: computer DVD-Players region free?
Please see the following link for downloads of firmware to make your DVD-ROM region-free:
http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/
If your player isn`t listed, or you don`t want to hack the firmware on your drive, then you can look for a program called DVD Genie which interacts with all the top DVD playing programs such as WinDVD and PowerDVD.
RE: Michael Caine Says we are losers & we all hate him
Quote:
[about starring in `Jaws: The Revenge`] "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
RE: Your Worst 5 Films
1. Time Machine 2002 - what was wrong with the original?
2. Rambo 3 - was there actually a storyline?
3. Any Batman film after Batman Returns
4. Apollo 13 - we all knew how it would turn out - didn`t we?
5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher`s (or Sorcerer`s if you`re American - what`s wrong can`t spell Philosopher?) Stone - to sum up the film - like Grange Hill with special effects.
I`m sure I`ll think of more ...
RE: tell me please so my head don`t explode!!!!!!!!!!
On a related point, see this page for interesting info about the other 2 Fergal Sharkey hits "You Little Thief" and "A Good Heart"

Madness ?
AS if buying DVDs that I already own on VHS wasn`t bad enough, I`ve begun to buy newer versions of DVDs I already own.
I recently bought the 5th Element (the Superbit version ... with DTS), even though I bought it when it originally came with DD 5.1.
My 2nd fit of madness was buying the re-released Usual Suspects, just to see the extras. I think the new version a better soundtrack?
Has anyone else succumb to the temptation of DVD re-release?
