RE: AIWA XD DV170 Can It Be Made To Play All Regions
Update from the above
HACK CORRECTION
I wrote the previous hack procedure and had an error, should be "OSD" button instead of "POWER"
This is the right procedure:
AIWA XD-DV170
I have one Aiwa XD-DV170 region 4 player, and found the way to play Region 1 DVDs:
1.- Plug the power into the unit but keep it turned off ("OFF" should be on display)
2.- Press and hold "MENU" button on unit (not on the remote), while holding pressed that key, do the same with "TOP MENU" (now you have two buttons pressed) and finally do so with "OSD" (you have to follow the sequence keeping pressed all previous keys) Onceyou have "MENU" "TOP MENU" and "OSD" buttons, hold them for at least 3 seconds and
"FACTORY" should appears on display.
3.- Turn on the unit
4.- Test it
In order to put it back to normal, use "F SKIP" instead of "MENU", "B SKIP" instead of "TOP MENU" and "POWER" instead of "OSD". "AllClear" should appear on display.
It works for region 1 and 4, I wonder if does for all other regions, I don`t have DVDs apart from R.1 and 4.
If works for U.K. DVDs please can somebody let me know..

Let us know if it works and somebody will be able to add it to the Region Hack database on this site.
RE: Aiwa XD-DW1 (Portable DVD) RCE Compatibility?
Doghouse, what was the remote hack you used? I`m interested in getting an Aiwa but want to check I can make it multi-region.
Thanks.
RE: Samsung 709 & RCE help required
The 709 has no problems with RCE discs Had Charlies Angels R1 for a while and the Sammy plays the film and extras with no problems at all.
No workarounds or tricks needed.
Check out www.709online.com for all the answers
RE: Certain disks wont output through digital optical to HTK-215
Make sure you select the correct audio option on the discs menu.
Some discs require you to choose the output you require and default to pro-logic.
RE: PLAYSTATION 2 MULTI-REGION CHIP
Gaz, I`m sure the administrators of the site would welcome the business of a proper advertisor. An alternative is to do as Steve does and reply to every question about unhackable players with a brief response and his website in his signature. Another alternative would be to invite comments about your business on the retailer reviews forum. If you have a few happy customers they can let it be known!
Good luck
RE: John Lewis and price matching generally
John Lewis do pricematch the internet.
Phone up the company (in my case empiredirect) and check its in stock. Take a print off of the screen to JL and ask them to pricematch. Do this at a quiet time (ie not Saturday afternoon) and they will check immediately. It took five minutes and I saved £90 off a TV that was already a decent price. My sister had a similar experience and saved £120 off a 24` Widescreen!
You also get a free Five Year guarentee and in most cases free delivery. The only rule is that the other company must have the item in stock.
Get down to JL see what they`ve got on offer then go and hunt for a bargain. They also have a decent range of Amps, all in one systems etc.

RE: AWIA XD-DV290, region hack?? got the 170 & 370, ne1 know this 1?
Jimbo, you mentioned chips being available for the 525. Good you let me know where from.
Cheers, looking forward to seeing the screenshots!
RE: Picture distorted at the top of TV advice please
My first R1 DVD on my Samsung 709 had the same thing. I solved the problem by turning Quasi-Pal to off on the players menu. If you have a silmilar option or changing from Pal 50 to Pal 60.
If none of the above works try changing the players output to RGB as this will override the NTSC/PAL content.
Let us know what player you have and somebody will probably be able to give you a more detailed and accurate answer.
RE: LG 3200 vs SAMSUNG 511
If you can pick up the Sammy for a bit less I would go for that.
John Lewis do it for £150 with a 2 year guarentee and empiredirect have it for a bit cheaper I think. Theres not much to choose between the two but for me the Samsung looks better and has a slightly better picture.

RE: Help needed with set-up
Clayts - the DVD + Amp + Speakers came to £480. All upgrades from the March What hi-fi offer. Originally Logix DVD, Kenwood DD only amp and those Moviemaxx speakers were £280, so £200 for all the upgrades is not bad.
Think he will disappear for a while now as hes already built up a decent collection.
Pasty Man - hes not really using it for CDs (the Tosh doesn`t play CD-rs or Rws) so I`m not sure. All I can say is it sounded great with The Thing, Seven SE and Platoon. Even the lion roaring for MGM was impressive. Check out the Schneiders reviewed in HomeCinemaChoice for real budget bargains but my advice would be to give Richers a ring, take your favourite CDs and audition a few systems. The amp is great and for the price I would definitely recommend. Checked out the Kenwood 5030 (no Dts) and 7030 (really aggressive sound - a bit to much so) and the Sherwood came out top. The Radios really good as well if you use it.
Good luck with your shopping.

RE: Help needed with set-up
Cheers for the help Clayts. Went round last night and set it all up.
As I expected my mate had upgraded all the components from the Richer add in What Hi-Fi, his final set up was:
Toshiba Sd 100e (MR)
Sherwood 6095 Amp
Eltaxx 6.2 Fronts
Eltaxx Moniter 3 Rears
Eltaxx Centre.
Sounds amazing. Probably not up there with the high end stuff but for the price very impressive. Asked about the Moviemaxx stuff but the Richers bloke suggested they might be a bit crap. Probably just trying to get him to spend more but decided to steer clear. The Schneiders got a brilliant review in Home Cinema Choice at around £130 so they might be an alternative.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.
Cheers,
Luis Guzman
Help needed with set-up
Finally convinced a mate to part with his hard earned on a complete system. Thing is he wants me to help him set it up and I haven`t really got a clue. (My set ups more simple DVD+TV) His set up will be:
28" Tosh TV (2 Scarts)
Tosh Nicam Video (2 Scarts)
Pioneer DV 535
Kenwood 5030 Amp
Eltaxx Moviemaxx Speakers
Sky Digibox (Pace)
Can anyone give me a rundown on how to connect it all and the best (reasonably priced) cables to use. Cheers
RE: Simian, trying to contact Simian about HITACHI TV (£340)
Sorry for the delay. I found the TV in the Hitaci factory shop. Some good deals all round there - got the address from a supplement in the Independent.
E-mail maet[at]ku.oc.elasnostahw
Include your phone number and code NET 019 (This is the Tv mentioned above for £320 plus £20 delivery)
The Hitachi Shop will then ring you back to give you more details.
Alternatively if you live in/near London their address is 166 High Street North, London. E6
All the above can be found on www.whatsonsale.co.uk but I`m bored at work so I thought I`d make it even easier.
Good Luck and Meery Christmas

RE: Wharfedale 28
Asked Wharfedale about the changes on the 890. Basically thev`ve responded to the ctiticisms in the DVD Times review and installed a new tuner and resolved the minor problem with the setup. They`ve also updated the chassis (or whatever you`d call the black box which surrounds the screen!.
These adjustments must make it the only real contender at the price. I`ve heard Asda have a Scneider in the same price range but haven`t seen any reviews. I`ve been told to steer clear of a cheap model by Bush. Also very impressed with Wharfedale customer service in the past (hifi speakers/components). The 890 is on my list to Santa.
Wharfedale 850
Anybody got one of these Tvs?
Looks like a bargain how would it compare with the Hitachi c28W410TN which I can pick up for about £80 more.
Wharfedale TVs
Any opinions/reviews on the 28" Widescreen thats currently in Tescos for £280. Alternative suggestions would also be appreciated.
Cheers
Do Hitachi TVs Also ROCK???????
Found a Hitachi C28W410TN (28" Widescreen Nicam)
for £340 delivered. This sounds like a good deal,
do Hitachi make good TV s - advice from owners would be most welcome.
Cheers.
Is this a bargain . . . .
I`ve been offered a Videologic Digitheatre for £100.
I can`t reall afford the DTS so is this a good price for this setup?
I`d appreciate any advice.
PS Has anyone bin to the Hitachi Factory Shop advertised in the Papers at the weekend?
Cheers for any help.
