RE: Can Anyone offer advice please?

That`s not quite how I read it, the MiB want to pay the kid 40% of his demand, rather than go to the hassle of investigating properly. They`ll then chase the driver for this 40%.

I assume the kid has no long lasting problems from the incident?

I say refuse to sign. If they do press it and go to court (which they might not even do, as they know they could lose) then I think his liability for the accident will be considered as well as yours. I knew someone awarded compensation for injury caused by a faulty machine, but I seem to remember his compensation was reduced by a percentage because he hadn`t done something.

So, they might not bring the case at all, they might not win the case, they might not be awarded what they expect. I say don`t settle.

RE: Quidco Quandry

If the company you are buying from is on Rpoints too, you can get them to pricematch Quidco. They`ve always seemed more reliable to me, so I use them unless the company isn`t listed.

RE: Roll Call, Please sign in

Present ... occasionally! Still do the quiz every day though, where are you all? :D

RE: how many hayfever tablets can you take in a day?

Anyone here tried this Medinose thing yet? I`m tempted by the Lloyds cheap own brand one, but I`m a little sceptical.

You forgot falling asleep as one of the symptoms. 2pm this afternoon I could barely keep my eyes open, now I`m wide awake! :D

RE: The Doctor is back at last!

Yep, the `Exterminieren` cracked me up. :D

I did enjoy it, at least partly through sheer relief that David Tennant was staying. :D

Is the Xmas special trailer online anywhere? I watched it with one of those people who turns off the tv at the start of the credits!

RE: Dirt cheap laptops any good?

Depends on what programs you want to run. I know someone who got Vista, none of their old programs are compatible, so they need to buy them all again in the latest versions, many of which aren`t as good as the older versions.

RE: 2GB SD Card £7.49 Free Delivery

I use the Extreme cards too, I think they`re a bargain from Play.

RE: Looking for recommendations, isps and external hard drives :)

Thanks :) About time I got all the old files off all the old computers into one place :D

RE: Looking for recommendations, isps and external hard drives :)

I finally bought the Iomega one this morning, I decided it was probably far safer than building anything myself. I really am hopeless with a screwdriver. :D

It comes as FAT32 ... I think there is a Win98 driver on their website, so hopefully that should be ok. Once I`ve got the data from the old laptop on it, would I be able to convert the drive without taking it all off again, I don`t have the space to put it anywhere! My son has an ME computer with some of my data on too, not sure what format that`ll be?

What is the easiest way to partition? :)

Thanks.

RE: Looking for recommendations, isps and external hard drives :)

Another question .... I was going to format the drive to NTFS as I thought that was better, but I have an old windows 98 laptop I wanted to recover some files from. Am I right in thinking that it would only see a FAT32 drive? If so, am I better off leaving it, or just creating a small FAT32 partition and converting the rest? And, what is the best, preferably free, way of doing it? Thanks :)

RE: Iomega External 500gb Drive £62.99 - Comet

Lol, yes, it suddenly came to me this morning, I must have been especially dense last night. :D

I think I`ll probably end up going for this one as I can only find a very few bad reviews, and most seem to be fairly quick failures, within minutes/days. I really wanted a Western Digital Mybook originally, but there are just too many bad reviews for me to feel safe buying one.

Thanks for the advice :)

RE: Iomega External 500gb Drive £62.99 - Comet

I assume lol means don`t buy one? :D I`m never going to make a decision at this rate :D

RE: Looking for recommendations, isps and external hard drives :)

But I can`t find a premade Samsung anywhere, I don`t do any kind of assembling! Unless you count the Buffalo where there is a 1 in 4 chance of getting a Samsung.

*edit* Quote:
anyway, i`ve confused you a little more

Didn`t see this over the page :D So how exactly do the connections work on SATA then? I just remember my last attempt being a total disaster as I was trying to rescue my old laptop disc and nearly broke the whole thing. :D Just been googling for pics, and still looks beyond me!

Iomega External 500gb Drive £62.99 - Comet

Just found this while searching for a new drive, then while I was searching for reviews realised it was on Hot Deals as a bargain, so thought I ought to post it here too.

At Comet for £69.99, but with a discount code on the page it goes down to £62.99

If you go for Collect in Store, remember to put in the discount code before you go looking for the store.

Think I`ll be picking one up tomorrow unless someone tells me they`re terrible in the meantime :D

RE: Looking for recommendations, isps and external hard drives :)

Still dithering over what drive to buy, every time I think I`ve found a decent one, I find a load of bad reviews of it and change my mind. :D

Anyone got any opinions on Toshiba drives? Can`t find any reviews of them at all!

Or Iomega? I have to make a decision soon, I don`t even have the space to empty my camera at the mo :D

*Edit* apparently Iomega use Seagate drives, but strangely have fewer bad reviews than the Seagates I`ve looked at? :D And I`ve found one I can pick up tomorrow locally that seems pretty cheap. So if you know anything bad about them, please tell me now :D

RE: Problem with the M3 DS Real Adapter...!!

Not exactly, if it was faulty and you got no joy with the seller, you may be able to claim through Amazon. They guarantee marketplace orders, but you`re only allowed 5 claims total so don`t waste them. :D

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

I created a folder in E called dashboards, and put unleashX in there, and put the config file and the default.xbe in C. I renamed the default file xboxdash.xbe, and now I`ve got UnleashX as default dash. Can`t get MS dash any more, but I`ll worry about that later! I had a folder came with unleashX that looked like a skin, but I put it in unleashX/skins and it doesn`t show up, but again that`s not a major problem. :D

Think I`ll give the chipped one to my mum, as it is easier to recover after any problems with a chip :D

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

I haven`t tried that yet, as I`ve been playing around with the Slayers disc to try and find out what is inside the box. I now have details of the bios, but not sure what to do next?

chip type - mod chip (or unknown homebrew)
bios - Xecuter4973 (1.1)

For some reason it wont ftp from the slayers disc, I think the previous owner may have some settings in there that are different to mine.

Think I`ll go boot it into the softmod again and see if there is a file explorer in there.

*Edit* no, can`t see a file explorer before I install anything.

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

I can`t do anything out of the ordinary without the softmod, I`ll have a look and see if I can find that and see what happens. :)

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Ok, I got bored with trying to work out how to do anything with this chip, so I tried the softmod again.... the first part worked ok, up until the point where it asks you to reboot to go into the shadow c. Once you start it with the game out, all there is is a black screen. The only way to get it to do anything is to boot it with a game in. I can get back into the softmod page and remove it again. When it is on the softmod page, I can ftp into it to see what is in there.

Do you think it is worth persevering with this one on the off chance it has any nice extras, or should I take it back to Game, tell them it wont do Live, and switch it? :D

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

No joy, I`ve tried quick press of the power, long press, starting with the eject, starting with eject and power, and starting with the white button held in, still no change in how it starts up.

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Thanks, I`ll give that a go :)

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

I don`t think it`s that sort of game, it`s only a tiny one, and definitely wasn`t an iso. When I unzipped it I got a whole load of files, with a zipped up sources folder inside. I tried moving the whole lot with the sources zipped, as that was how it had extracted, I got the main menu but nothing more. I guess I unzip the sources and maybe shove them back in the same folder, but I don`t really know :D

I had a good look around for a switch last night and couldn`t see one, I guess there is a chance they may have removed the switch and/or the whole chip before trading it in. It has definitely been opened at some point, and it is very clean compared to Xbox 2. I shall have a play with it later and see if I can get anything out of it with different ways of turning it on, but I`ve not got anything out of it so far.

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Ah, I`m the other way round, I will tinker with the software all day, but I refuse to open the box :D It is one of those things that once you have everything in place, it is unbelievably quick, but if it doesn`t work it is very difficult to work out why. :D

Any idea if I can apply the same mod to Xbox 1 with (possibly) a chip in, or if I`ll just break something? I have no idea what the chip is for, and how to use it if there is one!

If I can get both boxes done, I`ve promised my mum the spare. So far I`ve watched Youtube clips, listened to BBC streaming radio, watched some divx files, and played some music that was scrobbled and listed in my LastFM account, I`m dead happy. :D I`ve also got the weather set up, and a tv guide. :)

One thing I`m not sure of is downloaded games ... I got one called Bubble Trouble, but couldn`t work out how to install it. I ended up with a folder full of files, with a zipped up sources folder in it. Just dumping the whole lot in the games folder didn`t seem to work. :D

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Xbox 2 is now sorted! Well, I`ve added the new dash at least, I`ll have a go at the media centre tomorrow. It was Action Replay corrupting the save, I found a step by step guide to using Xplorer360, and it worked first time! :D

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

I`m guessing this is the problem with box 2?

Quote:
I`m trying to load a gamesave and it gives me an error 21
either the save is not on the hd or the save your trying to load is unsigned or damaged in some way. Action replay cards are known to corrupt saves and letting you boot to error 21. Original mem cards supose the be the securest way to transfer saves

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Hi, I know what you mean, I very carefully researched and was sure I knew what I was doing, can`t believe I can`t get either of them to work! :D

Box 1 appears to operate as a usual Xbox, boots into the MS dash, plays games, shows no sign of being modded except the message at startup. This was why it took me so long to realise, it wasn`t till box 2 arrived that I saw the difference. :D I would assume that the chip is stopping me softmodding it, but I can`t get box 2 to do it either!

I`ve got the original splintercell, and got the Krayzie Ndure from xbins. Version 1.1.

I`m wondering if using Active Replay might be corrupting the saves, but I couldn`t work out how to use Xplorer360 instead. Active Replay has suddenly decided this evening to label one of the saves `linux installer` and no longer lets me add it as a splintercell save for some reason. I saw error 21 was corrupted dash files, so wondered if something was going wrong with the saves, and it was trying to boot into the mod screen and failing. The Xbox (thankfully) reboots normally, so I`m not corrupting the main dash.

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

Ok, this now seems to be going from bad to worse :D

I wasn`t sure if the Xbox itself was faulty, so I got another one, thinking I could give the second one away if I ended up with two working media centres. I copied the saves in, put in splintercell, this time when I select checkpoints I get error 21. If I restart the Xbox it goes back to the usual microsoft dash no probs. Would this lead you to think my save files might be corrupted or wrong?

So, back to Xbox number 1, I suddenly realised that where number 2 said `microsoft` on the startup screen, number one actually says `Xecuter2`. So I googled this and it seems to be a mod chip! Could this be the cause of the problems... and what exactly can I do with it if it does have this chip?

Any advice very gratefully received :)

RE: More Neuk Powers stations - how do you feel about that?

How do I feel about nuclear power? To quote Homer ... "damn, damn, damn opposed!"

Round here we also have the NIMBYs, we have got a couple of wind turbines up locally with relatively few problems, but still they protest every application. There is even a protest group called `FART`. If I had the money, I`d shove a turbine in my garden. Ok so the small ones may not power a whole house, but if everyone had one, it`d help.

RE: Help me softmod an Xbox :)

On the bright side, I rang up Xbox after I came across some info on their cable recall, and they sent me a lovely brand new power cable with test button for it (after much arguing), so if the Xbox is faulty I wont need to send that back with it. :D
