RE: Which TV, Sony WEGA KVXA34M31 or Panasonic TAU TX-79P100Z
After owing a normal Sony Wega for 3 years I wanted a widescreen and like yourself I’ve been after a good 100Hz TV for some time, and got a 100hz JVC for a real good price, and was sharper than the equivalent Sony, which was next to it in the shop. but it’s not as good as the Panasonic by far, poor convergence, too much red, but after tweaking the service mode I’m now happy, but wish I’d payed the extra for the Panasonic.
Go for the Panasonic defiantly better than Sony`s offerings at the moment, non of that usual blurring in motion, especially when displaying grass, when it moves the detail is lost and only returns when stopped, I’ve noticed this annoying artefact on Philips 100Hz, Hitachi 100Hz & Sony 100hz, but not the Panasonic nor JVC. The Hitachi in fact was abysmal, with noticeable tearing on fast moving pictures.
P.S. Panasonic are due to release a new TAU set which has incorporated Dolby Digital & DTS, which my brother is waiting anxiously for!
Good luck
RE: Matsui 110 sound problem
No, I had one with the same problem, I phoned mastercare who told me to take it to a Currys mega store and show it the on-site engineer. If you`ve got it take the Matrix cos it`s stutters load of times in that film. Anyway the chap was already aware of the problem, so don`t take any crap of them.
They offered me a refund, so I took it.
Good luck
RE: GOODMANS new dvd player £170 (Comet)
It`s a re-badged Oritron DVD 200, same as used by Matsui(Dixons) and Schneider(Asda) where as they`re black the Grundig is grey.
Try the Matsui DVD110 hack from this very site, I would be interested if it works or not?
Goodluck.
For you info..

RE: The Ironduke Predicts!
"Too late pal too many people are using it now, besides......who the f*ck are you to tell people what to do"
Sorry Duke to have offended you!!!!!!!!
Child.
RE: Back to square one...
God knows what Iron Duke`s on but the Sony 335/6 is an ok player, I own an Aiwa 370 + Sony 336(Used as a cheap portable) and there`s nothing wrong at all with the picture/sound, maybe he could be more specific! Plus it has a switched twin scart, which is very nice if you have 2 RGB devices hungry for the same port on your TV instead of a loop-through like the LG, which means if the other device is on it can interfere. Other little nice features are the resume play from off, which the Aiwa can`t LG 3350 can, Title remaining on the players display is a nice touch, no title remain on either the LG or Aiwa.
I like them both all I can say is the Sony`s not worth the 80 quid extra over the Aiwa, but it’s a fine machine.
"LG" but the way stands for "Lucky Goldstar", they used to go under the name "Goldstar" but have reverted back to their full name, probably had a stigma to lose!
And stop all this ROCKS!! Crap, makes you sound like spotty teenagers (You know who you are!!)
RE: LG 3350 Layer Change
Weird isn’t it, just like IT Troll said, watch the whole film and it`s perfect, jump to chapter 14 and it pauses during the layer change, which means to me the machine`s well capable of performing a layer change seamlessly, can I see a possible firmware fix on the horizon?
RE: Wharfdale - Overhyped?
Poor picture? what have you got it connect to?
only 2 out of 7 players I`ve had rank at the top for all rounders and thats the Wharfedale and Aiwa 370!
But I can only speak for the 750 not the 750S. My 750 has a very very good picture, but it`s rather noisy.
If you want a bad picture try a Daewoo/Scan, Ariston, JVC, Matsui then have a look at your Wharfedale again and tell me what you think?
RE: Sony 336 BURNS & ROCKS at the same time .....
Also got one coming tommorow from www.linkonline.co.uk
Will let you know how it compairs to the wicked Aiwa DV370, and if it sucks I`ll say it sucks, and if it rocks.... I try not to hurt anybodys feelings, but I will only give an honest opinion. I hate mis-informers..
RE: JVC 521,522 or 523
I`ve owned a JVC 523 for a couple of weeks, and was not impressed at all, granted it plays VCD`s and reads CD-R`s, macro off, multi region but the playback quality is poor in the sense it`s not crisp due to the fact it can`t output RGB only s-video.
Also the remote looks nice but is a ball ache, you have to press a shift key to access many of the functions like fast forward and rewind!
The only reason I got one in the first play was because I have the matching JVC 32" TV which is gold like the player.
But fortunately so is the wonderful Aiwa DV370 which totally wipes the floor with the JVC 523, honestly it’s that much better. And if you can live without the macrovision disable feature, what are you waiting for.
RE: Noisy Wharfedale 750S - do I have a problem.
I`m afraid all Wharfedales even the older 750`s suffer from the noisy Sanyo drive mechanism, you`ll just have to live with it, or put it in a cabinet with a glass door, that`s what fixed mine! The Aiwa 370(Comet) is silent when playing films, and has a very good picture, but has a slow layer change, worth a consideration if you can get a refund at Tescos.
Swings and roundabouts spring to mind!
RE: LG 3350 Layer Change
Well Jimbo, you must indeed be graced with gods own player.
Here`s a thread from an earlier disscussion
Loz Aiwa 320 >“It takes nearly a second on gladiator just after Commodus drinks his tonic on chapter 14...”
It Troll’s LG 3350 >“Loz - Just had a look again at Gladiator and I have to agree with your layer change comments,...”
So my Aiwa and Troll`s LG does it, now go and check yours again.
Remember mine`s nearly a brother to yours at only 900 units apart!
RE: LG 3350 Layer Change
I can`t speak for the LG3350 personally, as I own an Aiwa 370 a.k.a LG 3XXX, so you can presume the LG 3350 will have the same affliction. There is indeed a very noticeable delay when the layer change occurs, the picture and sound freezes for nearly a whole second before continuing, but apart from that I cannot fault it.
But there is nothing else close for the price only the Wharfedale who’s transition between the layers is seamless, but it’s just too damned noisy to live with especially in films like the Green Mile, the drive sounds like a coffee grinder, plus the remote is poor and will not function unless you aim directly at the player. But if you have a cabinet with a glass door to hide the beast it may be worth considering.
Either go for the Aiwa or LG, or grab an extra ton and buy a well know branded machine. Study these forums and make up your own mind.
RE: troll lg3350
Yeah, they are indeed nice, but the pause when changing layers is annoying, one of the longest i`ve seen on a player. It takes nearly a second on gladiator just after Commodus drinks his tonic on chapter 14. Compared to a fraction of a second on a Pioneer 525, and get this its not even noticeable on the Wharfedale!
RE: LG 3350E Funks! Why rock with the Aiwa 270
I`m sorry but the aiwa 370 is indeed a re-badged LG, same display and everything, have you not seen one!! And your player does not have a mod chip in it at all, it`s purley a remote hack! naughty Techtronics charging you £30, you can buy the LG3350 from dabs direct for £188!!!!
Sorry..
but saying that it`s still a nice player.

RE: Whats` so Good about the Aiwa 370?
Well Jimbo, it`s defiantly there on mine, I hope your looking for the same thing I’m describing, the steps in shades of the same colour!
Anyway, for you info my unit was manufactured
June 2000
S:N#Q00600839
How does this tally with yours?
Looks like a trip to comet is due for a replacement.
Shame we don’t know a way of checking the firmware version!!
Cheers

RE: Scan 2000 DVD Player
If copying DVD`s to VHS for your mates is your bag then get the Scan.
Otherwise go and get the Aiwa DV370 from Comet NOW!, have you not been reading these forums? Jesus!
RE: Daewoo owners, please help!!
I`ve just taken my Daewoo back to Argos, it`s to worse, nicest player I`ve owned so far.
1-Looks lovely
2-Fast as a bat out of hell
3-Quiet drive
4-Macrovison,MP3,VCD
5-Multi-Region & Fixed
Now here’s the nasty part
Bloody awful picture, anything that’s moving is ok, but things in the background, specially dark areas pixelate and shimmer, and theres a mega amount of banding in shades. If this player had the picture quality then I would still have it now.
Please save yourself the grief and avoid the Daewoo, and why but an ugly SCAN when you could have a sexy Aiwa!
Try and Find the Aiwa XD-DV370, over here it’s only 10 pounds more, and a far superior player.
I’ve also owned a Wharfedale, but cos my TV’s silver I flogged it! And I’m still regretting it to this day! But I’m pleased with the Aiwa, but the Wharfedale still has the edge on picture quality but looses out due to the crap remote control, very noisy drive which you can hear ticking away whilst watching films.
RE: Whats` so Good about the Aiwa 370?
Why do you all say it`s derives from a 3350E, when in fact its nearly identically the LG 3200E with the addition of the optical out and firmware that supports MP3+VCD. There’s no DD decoder, no 15 disc resume, no 15 disc condition memory, no resume from power off, only 1 scart.
And there is Visible banding in lots of titles, take Gladiator’s opening title sequence, there’s a lot of banding in the smoke, jump to chapter 14, Commodus’s face while coming into focus displays this same artefact, and you’ll notice it in the background while he talks to his sister, moments later.
I have compared this to the Wharfedale and my PC, and neither do it! I’m not slagging off this lovely player, but it has got display quality flaws.
And yes it’s going through my RGB socket, and I am aware that most TV’s only have 1 RGB, and the rest of the scarts are composite. Banding would still be there no matter how you connected the video source.
Maybe I’ve been unlucky and own one with a crud firmware or something.
And the reason why I’ve not got a Wharfedale, is cos my TV’s Silver!
RE: Aiwa 370 Vs. Lecson Vs. Encore 450 which 1 ?????????????????????????
The Aiwa is basically an LG3200E with more features namely MP3, VCD & Optical Output.
It does do DTS, can do RCE if you can set the region 1 – 6 manually, so if your DVD is region 1 set the player to region 1 then it will work, and set it to 0 (Multiregion) for all other times. I know it’s a pain having to press a few buttons for some but it works.
The DVD drive mechanism runs virtually silent when playing films, you’ll only hear it when it’s access the root, or skipping chapters etc.
The Picture is very good, but I can notice banding in virtually every film I own. It defiantly has not got a better picture than the Wharfedale, I had one of these, and my friend still has, and yes you’ve guessed it we’ve had em’ side by side and the Wharfedale shows hardly any banding at all when compared (banding is the artefact created when the colour pallet cant display all the hue’s for a colour, thus resulting in a stepping effect from the dark area to the light)
Hope this helps.

RE: Whats` so Good about the Aiwa 370?
DVD, VCD, MP3, CD-R,CD-RW. I have one of these players and it`s a good performer, but it`s picture is not as good as the Wharfedale, there is quite a lot of banding noticeable, on walls etc. But the Wharfedale’s DVD drive is noisy and annoyed me so I changed it for this. Maybe Im asking for to much for only 200, but it might be worth paying the extra £80 and getting a Sony 335. not many features but very good picture. I would give the Aiwa 8 out of 10 for picture quality.
This is my 7th DVD player, it`s not the best for picture, but it defiantly is not the worse.
RE: AIWA 370 & SVCD
Not sure about SVCD, but it does do DTS. I have one of these players and it`s a good performer, but it`s picture is not as good as the Wharfedale, there is quite a lot of banding noticeable, on walls etc. But the Wharfedale’s DVD drive is noisy and annoyed me so I changed it for this. RE: Come Join !!!!!! THE AIWA MASSIVE !!!!!!!!
Calm down boys, certainly it`s a fine player, but there is quite a lot of noticeable banding in the subtle hues of colours, especially on Commodus`s face as it comes into focus on chapter 14 in the Gladiator for example, which is far less noticeable on the old Wharfedale.
I`m not being bias, the only player I own is a Aiwa DV370, Just pointing out a fact.
RE: looking for my first DVD player
I would like to just re-itterate on the Aiwa, it`s a corker.
I`ve had the following players, and I`ll rate them in order of quality/features/price
1-Aiwa DV370 (ok remote, good picture but I still think the Wharfedale was better plus you can select a region to get around RCE, which the Wharfie can`t)
2-Wharfedale 750, (noisy drive, dodgy remote, but really nice picture)
3-JVC 523 (Crap remote, not a lot going for it really)
4-Samsung 709 (ultra crap remote joystick thingi, didn`t like my VCD`s, big pause when changing layers)
5-Matsui 110 (well ugly,no VCD, but had 5+ disc resume feature..nice)
6-Ariston 2000 (Just plain crap and worse remote i`ve ever seen)
7-Daewoo 2200 (looks a darling, fast, quiet, loads features but duff picture)
get an Awia enter the PI hack and Roberts your farthers uncle.
Cheers

RE: Ooooh Carrot
I`ve got an Aiwa DV370 and R1 Fight Club, and can`t find this so called skipping problem, where is it supposed to happen?
Chapter=?
Time=?
Give me this info and I`ll scrutinise mine again.
I would highly recommend this player after suffering so much misery from the bloody awful Daewoo 2200 I`ve just returned to Argos.
Cheers

RE: Aiwa 370 vs Encore
Having used the Aiwa DV370 for a couple of days now, I must say I`m very pleased with it, it is in fact an LG 3200E, with a different front(same at rear) and a bios that supports VCD+MP3, but you don`t get the 15 disc resume feature of the 3350 nor the DD 5.1 decoder. Also the drive it self is silent when playing films, so much so that you have to get right up to it to hear it, the only time you can hear it is when it`s accessing the root menu. Other than that it`s a damn fine player, no blocks in dark scenes, only the usual banding in shades or around the halo of lights on some of the older discs etc. But every player I`ve had does that, must be a DVD thing. And I`ve had a few players!! Samsung, Ariston, Matsui, Wharfedale, JVC, Daewoo/Scan(absolute crap, block pixel master) and finally this Aiwa. Plus I have R1 Fight Club and i`ve not noticed any skipping at all? I would like to know where this happens(chapter, time etc.). Just simply enter the PI code (314159), supplied by Jimbo and Robert`s your farthers brother
Cheers

RE: Scan SC-2000 or Wharfedale 750s?
Go for the Aiwa, is a re-badged LG 3200 with MP3+VDC+very good picture, silent drive and a good remote, you can aim at the ceiling and the unit pick it up.
The Whafedale is also very good, but sometimes you can hear the drive whirring away over the films, and you have to aim the remote directly at the player for it to register, and forget the Scan/Daewoo the picture is very bad indeed.
RE: Confusion about Daewoo DHC 2200K
Got the same problem with the audio outputs, if set to Bitstream the video judders, set to PCM or OFF and it`s fine. The main thing is the poor picture quality, it appears that the colour depth of the player is too low, like it`s only 16-bit and not 24-bit. I my friend has a Wharfedale and it`s by far superior, none of that awful banding on the walls in the background etc. I get the same effect on my PC if the display is set to 16-Bit colour, but disappears when set to 24-Bit(16 Million Colours) or above! I believe simply that the unit can only render in 16-Bit(65535 Colours) hence the poor quality, lack of colour depth will cause banding. I`m going to return mine to Argos and look for something else, Region free/Macrovision or not. I want the quality not just the features! Shame the Wharfedale is not Silver.
