Troll just thought i would let you know after much deliberating between the lg3350 and the aiwa i decided to go for the lg 3350.
I have purchased a virgin reigon 2 model but the hack supplied by jimbo works a treat dont sweat about how much it cost you and feeling ripped off i was more than happy to go to currys and take the risk with the hack and pay £250 as i do not like to wait for anything.
if anybody wants to say i am a lunatic well they can s--k my stump maybe i am but i just got myself what seems to be a 1st class player after being refunded for my hitachi 505 this one looks like it could be the one i was looking for (i hope) this player looks well sexy and after the aiwa clan going on so much about there player i thought i would join you in the lg crew???.
Seriously your review on this player does not seem far wrong so far as long as those pixels are kept at bay i am a well happy chappy.
Just as a point of intrest the lg can now be picked up for £197 online that cant be bad.
LG3350 Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Jimbo admit it
Hitachi Rocks!!!!!!!!!!

Eh?
You gone nuts over there Daz?
I was the one who posted the hack originally FOR the 3350, not the Aiwa!
Then I got the Aiwa and found it worked on that too!!
And I need the VCD playback.
On another point...strip out the Dolby decoder, and ya got a very close-to-the-Aiwa circuit board!
(yeah, the Aiwa has the usual "corner cuts" for this type of thing..lotsa bridges across a board with no components)
And, as I said before, I don`t mind not having a dolby decoder because
1) I have no dolby capable amplifier at present
and
2) Most AV amps come with the decoder built in and just require the Digital input which the Aiwa can supply!
Of course the LG 3350 rocks!! I sed it with Troll first!!
It`s just that it`s "Illegitimate fruit" (quote from Troll there) does it better and cheaper!
AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!
(Aiwa looks nicer too! :oÞ)
Nice one Daz, welcome to the exclusive 3350 cult. You are obviously a man of taste and free judgement, not needing to follow in the path of the other Aiwa sheep. Glad to hear the hack worked for you, what is your date of manufacture (it is printed on the back). You may also like to check out http://members.tripod.co.uk/ittroll/

Hardly Jimbo, the LG is available online for the same price as the Aiwa. OK, so it doesn`t do VCD but it does have the the in-built decoder and a better remote. So in reality, it does it about the same for the same price.
Also you say,
> Most AV amps come with the decoder built in. . .
This is true, but why buy an amp. When you could just go for an active speaker set-up. With all these DVD players now coming with built-in decoders, I am sure we will start to see more and more speaker packages designed for this very purpose.

Bloody hell Jimbo calm down did you hear me slag the aiwa off no you didnt ive seen the picy on both of them and they are as good as each other as for the fascia that comes down to preference i like the 3350 although i dont think the aiwa is bad looking.
what swayed me to the Lg was the fact that when i saw the manual it did not mention pal 50 anywhere and that is priority no1 for me now i know the Lg manual does not metion it either but it does it.
It was a risk i could not afford to take as comet would not have let me take it back if i moaned about black & white r1 movies would they so there you go i know they are essentialy the same and i thank you for the glorious hack i am well chuffed but dont call me nuts at this i refer you to my previous thread containing s--p.
Aiwa Rocks !!!!!!
Lg Rocks!!!!!!!!
Hitachi Rocks!!!!!!!!!!! How could i forget
Yeah, they are indeed nice, but the pause when changing layers is annoying, one of the longest i`ve seen on a player. It takes nearly a second on gladiator just after Commodus drinks his tonic on chapter 14. Compared to a fraction of a second on a Pioneer 525, and get this its not even noticeable on the Wharfedale!
Cheers Troll that info is well cool just for your information it was manufactured in july 2000 why has the firmware changed.
Lg 3350 rocks!!!!!!!
and so does the aiwa and hitachi where will it all end???
> july 2000 why has the firmware changed
I don`t think so, mine too was manufactured in July 2000. Which Techtronics claim requires a firmware update to be multi-region. However your and other peoples experiences are saying otherwise.
Just trying to establish if it is safe to say all 3350s purchased from now on are remote hackable.
Loz - Just had a look again at Gladiator and I have to agree with your layer change comments, rather that than the noisey and buggy Wharfedale though.

I have obviously found the shrine of the LG3350. I have already decided on one but where do I get it for £197?
Has anyone tried it through the Videologic Digitheatre DTS?
htttp://www.dabs.com had it for £188.99 but it is now showing as temporarily unavailable.
It might be worth giving Dabs a ring about availability. The 3350 is so good my order went `missing` while in the hands of Parcel Force.
Dabs sent another out on 20th Nov when their site was showing no stock. It arrived on 23th Nov. Whoopee!!
Hey Troll, neat site...wonder what you could produce if you really put your mind to it?
