I hired out Captain Corelli`s Mandolin yesterday and found no extras and yet the UK release does state there quite a few.
I think we are being swindled and I`m going to tell them so.
the reason for this was that it was a rental copy which do not include extras, the extras only appear when the dvd goes on retail release to the general public(about 4-6 weeks after rental release)
wonder
I`m sure you have realised that this is a `con` by the film distributors so they earn twice as much revenue from fans who pay to watch the rental copy then pay to own the film (for the extras) a month or two later !!!
I personally try to resist the temptation of renting and wait for the official release ...... or buy the region 1 release that is out the same time as the UK rental ...
I always check on the back of case to see if it`s the official release or the RENTAL version, a lot of them are marked on the front cover as being FOR RENTAL ONLY, ( many aren`t !! ) also be aware of this when buying ex-rentals !!
Cheers.
its not blockbuster`s or any other rental outlets fault.its the companies who distribute the films.they make more money if they make a title avaiable for rental only for the first 6 weeks(sometimes a lot longer).its the consumers who suffer and the companies who rent the products who have to deal with the unhappy public such as yourself.
I have complained and it seems you are all right. This is the reply from Blockbusters Customer services:-
"Regretfully, I must advise that a number of the studios are releasing their
rental DVDs with out any extra features, prior to the release of the retail
copies. Unfortunately Blockbuster has no control over this matter and
purchases the stock that is made available."
The other questions is when the DVD is actually released to jo public will Blockbusters take them off the shelf and put the new released versions ?
sadly no.the companies wont send in these copies because they want the public to spend there hard earned cash on purchasing there films.roll on the day that we are equal with the states and have films released to buy and rent at the same time, but that may only mean that they will produce 2 types of discs.one with the features for retail and the other with just the film.its all about money and not the consumer.

The thing that p***es me off the most about this is that some DVDs take absoloutely ages to come onto the retail market...for instance `Captain Corelli`s Mandolin` will take 3 months...what a disregard for the DVD format. Buena Vista and 20th Century Fox (they do it on only some of their releases, not all) seem to be the main culprits...they should sort it out ASAP.
X-)
Sorry to have to tell you this but in about 2 years time this will be the norm. you have to remember the video rental stores have to make a living as well so when dvd takes over from video most dvd will be rental only, then about 3 to 6 months later they will be on retail, which is the way things are for vhs video`s just now.
Zidane.
i think the demand for retail will increase.i cannot see rental only titles taking over.why should they, companies make more profit through a purchased dvd than a rental one.plus there is the threat of dvd copying.we shall have to see what happens over the next couple of years.a perfect world would be rent and buy at the same time and the same time as the states but that aint gonna happen
