RE: LOST-The season 2 thread :)
you can get it on Mininova too - was on there by about 7 this morning
RE: has anyone here had their broadband increased by Telewest yet??
you can check your area status at:
www.blueyonder.co.uk/evenfaster
RE: has anyone here had their broadband increased by Telewest yet??
2MB = £17.99 (or 14.99 with a phone line if you`re a new customer)
4MB = £25.00
10MB = £35.00
They`re all uncapped as well for downloads.
RE: has anyone here had their broadband increased by Telewest yet??
5th December to 14th December for you.
Think you`re pretty much the last area by the looks of it.
RE: has anyone here had their broadband increased by Telewest yet??
What area are you in and i`ll try and find out for you?
RE: Route 66 on Nokia 6630
I just got route 66 on Nokia 6630 last week and I think its brilliant. Never had any sort of sat nav before but this does everything I need it to do. Everyone I`ve shown it to thinks its great as well.
The only thing I had a bit of trouble was activating it - it said it would be done within 15 minutes but it actually took about 7 hours, but that`s probably what happens if you try to activate it at 11pm on a Sunday.
I got it free with a deal the carphone warehouse are doing at the moment and it included everything you need in the pack. It is on the 3 network but it seems to be 100 times better than when I was on 3 a few years ago.
RE: Telewest Teleport!!
You have a point about the digital text - never understood the point of putting a button on the remote control which serves no purpose :/
I think the Teleport is supposed to be fairly similar to the service Homechoice provide but with a lot more content apparently. I`ve only used it so far to watch a couple of Eastenders epsiodes I missed and also the series of Celebrity Poker it has on there. Haven`t really had a good chance to have a play with it but it does seem like there is quite a lot on there.
RE: Telewest Teleport!!
Hi,
Yeah, I have been using Teleport - it seems alright, but it will be a lot better when they`ve added more content to it - think its just BBC channels and the Telewest ones (like Living, Bravo etc) that are on there at the moment - but it is handy being able to watch a movie more than once within 24 hours and pause/rewind it.
It`ll be a lot better when they bring out their TV drive (similar to Sky +) in the beginning of next year. Apparently it will be better than Sky + because there are going to be three channels so you can watch one channel and record two others at the same time - or record three channels at the same time.
RE: Anyone good at business studies?
Just search on google - that`s how i got my degree ;)
This should help you with SWOT analysis:

edit: actually just looked and you have to pay for that one - but google is the answer anyway.

RE: LOST-The season 2 thread :)
Saw this on one of the torrent sites for people having problems with lip sync:
Quote:
Audio sync problems: Anyone that gets a video file that slowly goes out of audio / video sync the longer the file is played, can correct this using VirtualDub also, without having to wait for a new re-code release.
1. Open VirtualDub
2. File / Open Video File
3. Video / Direct Stream Copy
4. Audio / Direct Stream Copy
5. Video / Frame Rate
(Click on "Change to", and type in a slightly different number from the encoded frame rate shown in VirtualDub) Follow the 5 steps above to correct minor audio / video sync problems in only a few minutes.
Most video problems are with 1-3 seconds out of sync, so the change to the frame rate only needs to be slight, i.e 23.976 to 23.955. If the audio is behind the video you need to lower the frame rate, and if the audio is ahead of the video, you need to increase the framerate.
I am not that expert at video files, but I read these simple solutions posted by someone else, and they worked so well for me, that I thought I would submit them for anyone that has similar problems now, or in the future, rather than waiting for a new BitTorrent file.
Think all you need to download is VirtualDub - which is free.
Hope that helps.

If you were the directors, you`d be p***ing yourself at all the stuff people come out with to try and make sense of the program.

RE: LOST-The season 2 thread :)
I know what you mean about the lip synching issues - up til recently always had that a lot - not sure if this is what fixed it, but it did seem to coincide with downloading a codec pack that everything now seems to be in sync. Don`t know if this is what would have caused the problems, but I also burn to DVD with Nero and its all been fine since.
RE: LOST-The season 2 thread :)
I also really enjoyed this episode - thought the scenes on the raft were brilliant.
SPOILER:
Are we sure that the people that were chasing Jin are definitely "the others" - they could be the other survivors from the plane crash?? Just thought this because of the weapons they were carrying.
RE: broadband speed vs torrents
For the port forwarding thing, I found that opening up the ports 6881 - 6889 on my windows firewall and telling Azareus that 6881 was the listening port that the downloads increased loads - used to d/l at about an average of 5 kbps - since i made these changes it now averages about 60 kbps (obviously depending on the number of seeders and leechers etc)
Would also definitely recommend Azareus as it shows you if your connection is ok - you get a green smiley face. I just did a search on google for how to speed up torrents and there is loads of info on there.
RE: Lost - the new series on channel 4
I can only say the same as some others that I found it to be a brilliant programme - personally I think its been the best thing on since 24. I also agree having to wait a week for the next episode is frustrating and its tonnes better if you watch one after the other.
Stick with it though because it does get better towards the end in my opinion.
RE: Building a PC first time
Thanks for both the replies - am at work at the moment so will have a good look at tonight but was exactly what I was looking for.
Cheers.
RE: Legal Car Help - Presenting Documents
Unfortunately I think you just have to tell them it was an honest mistake - if you try to get the MOT done now and take it in they will eventually do you for producing false documents. A guy at my work just got done for exactly the same thing - again an honest mistake, but now he is being done for no MOT, no insurance (although he had it, the no MOT invalidated it) and perverting the course of justice.
Looks like the poor guy is going to have to do some community service, as well as losing his licence - so my advice is just to go in and admit it and hope they are lenient.
Good luck.
Building a PC first time
Hi,
Just after some advice really. I`ve decided that I`m going to build myself a PC because I need a new one and quite fancy having a go at putting one together. Problem is that I`ve never done anything like this before and I`m not too hot on hardware - more of a software person.
I know the main things that go into a PC like the motherboard, CPU, RAM etc but I was really just looking to find out what people would recommend and how I can know what is compatible with what.
I plan to use the PC mainly for just general stuff like Internet, downloading movies and music but I`d quite like it to have a decent spec. I`ve been thinking that I`d like it to have at least following specifications from what I know:
160Gb Hard Drive
1Mb RAM
DVD+/-RW
Does anyone have any idea how much I should be looking to spend and where the best place would be to source the individual items? I`m based in Gateshead so not sure of any computer fairs but I know there is a Maplins nearby but have also considered ordering the separate parts from ebay.
I`ve done a search on google and there seem to be loads of sites available for how to build computers, but obviously some are better than others - has anyone used one that they would recommend to a first-timer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Richard
RE: Owen going to Newcastle :-(((((((
I have to say as a Liverpool fan that I think it`s a brilliant signing for Newcastle. If he didn`t come to us there isn`t another team in the premiership I`d rather that he`d gone to. Newcastle do seem to have other problems, but I`m sure signing Owen is a step in the right direction and I fully expect to see Newcastle shooting up the league.
People seem to be really down on Newcastle and their recent signings but Owen, Luque, Emre and Parker are all class players who would easily get into the majority of Premiership sides and once they`ve settled should make a huge difference.
Just my opinion.
RE: Best way to learn Poker?
I reckon the easiest way to learn is to go on one of the sites and play the games for free. I learnt initially on sites like Pacific Poker and Party Poker - and then once you`ve got a hang of the rules try entering some of the lower entry tournaments - I think the lowest ones are normally around £1 and they are more realistic than the play money tournaments (where everyone seems to go all in with 2 7). Once you start winning those on a regular basis then try entering higher valued tournaments - obviously the more it costs to buy-in, the better the quality of the opposition.
Hope that helps - try not to get too addicted!
RE: Help - Need advice on Uni Results...
Hi,
Do you have a course leader who you can speak to? If so it is probably best to speak to them first. It doesn`t sound like you have grounds to appeal based on the two points you said from the handbook - I`ve heard of a few Uni`s that don`t have any appeal process though.
It seems a bit strange that your results and graduation are so close together, I`ve got over two weeks between when I get mine and the graduation.
If you don`t have any luck with your course leader, it may be worth going over his/her head and speaking to the dean of the school - a guy on my course did that and managed to get a result excluded from consideration for his final degree (although that was more due to teaching standards).
Good luck anyway.
RE: Help! Excel Driving me crazy! :p
If you can give me examples of column titles and example values I can probably work it out for you.
RE: Any Poker Players out there? Reviewer Poker night???
I play quite a bit of poker, although I`m not registered with Ladbrokes - tend to stick with William Hill or Pacific Poker.
If you`re just getting into it Pacific Poker is really good (you`re playing Americans who might as well just give you the money - on the lower money games anyway). I find you tend to get better players on William Hill so I expect Ladbrokes are pretty much the same. I prefer Pacific because I`m into tournaments and there seems to be a much greater choice for how many players, buy-in etc than any of the other ones I`ve been on - plus the fact I win a lot more on Pacific.
RE: can someone help me with an excel formula please?
I know what you mean - I had to look at mine a couple of times first just in case. Yeah I agree with your new one - extra functionality too - bonus points for you :D
RE: can someone help me with an excel formula please?
Nick - I just liked the original comment about simple maths - made me laugh (not meaning to cause offence).
RE: can someone help me with an excel formula please?
You could do it Nick`s way but you`d still need to include -100 to get the right figure (this way wouldn`t show a percentage sign though).
I`d always stick with my original answer just so it looks nicer in terms of formatting.
RE: can someone help me with an excel formula please?
Nick - That wouldn`t work out the mark up percent.
RE: mp3 connection to pc problem
I had a similar problem with mine when I first got it and it was because of the shape of the mp3 player, it didn`t fit correctly in the USB slot - a USB extension cable fixed the problem.
RE: can someone help me with an excel formula please?
You should just be able to highlight the cell and click the % button. If you send me your email address I can send you a sample spreadsheet.
If you can`t find the % button, just right click in the cell and choose format cells and on the number tab select percentage.
You can then drag the formula down to save duplication.
