RE: DVD commentaries - waste of time?

i found the commentary on ghostbusters to be very good. harold ramis , ivan reitman and another of the producers all sitting around talking about the movie and its conception, writing and various actors, scenes etc. a very informative and enlightening commentary only marred in MHO by the silhouette of their heads that they put on screen so it looks as though you are sitting behind them while they are watching the movie at the cinema !!

RE: Which for my first DVD player, Lecson vs Scan vs LG?

i would go for the lecson as it is a very good machine.i have had no problems with mine whatsoever.
it has very good picture and sound quality, loads of sockets at the back including 2 scarts ( useful for copying ) and also has an on board dolby digital decoder.
2 years free guarantee and surprisingly good service from debenhams.

go for it mate it`s sitting on the shelf waiting for you

i wouldn`t go for the scan due to the amount of postings in this forum and from what i can gather the lg seems a capable machine - it`s up to you.

hope this helps you

LOL and other abbreviations

i hate to appear ignorant on this matter but what does the abbreviations used in these postings such as LOL mean ?. can anybody list them for all relative newbies so we know what the hell you are talking about!

i know this is not a hardware issue but they appear mostly in this forum
( mostly during flames )

help appreciated

thanks :)

RE: What is the Best dvd player under £200?

lecson dvd 900- does all of the above and plays MP3 if thats your thing, all decoders on board plus 2 scart sockets to make things a little easier.
it costs £179 from debenhams and comes with a free 2 year warranty it is a great machine :)

LG 3200E for sale at BIG W for £129.00 is this a good deal ? one for ittroll i think

the BIG W store at the forge retail park in glasgow was selling this player for £129. i do not know anything about it so i think as it is an LG maybe ITTROLL coould shed some light on its worthiness

sounds like a good deal, hope this helps someone

RE: what a f**kin joke!!!!!!!

any info on copying a dvd to a dvd? ( tee- hee )

RE: Can you remove MACRO on a LECSON 900 ??? Also CYBERHOME...

no known remote disabler at this time only via hardware. use a macrovision buster or disabler ( scart type lead which disables macrovision usually £30 ) see elswhere on this site

hope this helps

RE: IT Troll delivers: VCD playback on the LG DVD-3350E

well done mate ! i don`t have an lg but i am very glad there are still people out there fighting the establishment.

RE: scart type macrovision buster sold in glasgow- anybody used one?

thanks for the replies i will go and get one :)

RE: Lecson Homepage

lecson do not have a homepage. i have contacted debenhams and from what i can gather the machines have been designed in the uk but are assembled in P.R.C. ( peoples republic of china ).
there appears to be no website or info on lecson apart from the fact that they used to make amplifiers in the past

hope this helps

RE: Picture problems when using lecson and Toshiba

hmmmm i`m not entirely sure what your problem is but is sounds as if our old friend macrovision is interfering in some way. do you have your dvd player hooked straight to your t.v. or is is routed via your video recorder as the latter may explain your problem

RE: Lecson 900 DVD player was £199 - now £179 until 28 Feb

welcome to the club !!
glad you are enjoying the lecson i have one too and find the picture quality and sound to be excellent. i had the fabled aiwa 370 but returned it because the picture quality was`nt very good. the lecson is much better and with 2 scart sockets built in dd decoder ,region hacking and 2 years guarantee - what a bargain-

enjoy:)

RE: Aiwa shite

i agree with your sentiments on the aiwa, after all that has been said on this site i tracked one down and bought it, i returned it a few days later because the picture and sound quality was not up to scratch on the lecson900 that i had in the first place . so i bought another one

the sad truth is that there has been so much hype on this site that people are frothing at the mouth to get one, i would recommend an in- store trial before anyone buys. if the store has any kind of customer service they will not mind.

RE: Lecson dvd-900

i am not exactly sure what you are after mate, if youi want to explain a little further i will try to help

RE: LG3350e owners esp. Ittroll

goldeneye, dont listen to the likes of troll when he disses the lecson this guy is a short arse who goes around dissing the lecson when he has never owned one. he has had a wharefdale in the past and is convinced the two are the same THEY ARE NOT. the lecson does not have the disk playing probs that the wharefedale has the lecson also uses the zoran chipset as do more expensive high end players like the arcams.

i would reccomend that you see demos of any machine before you buy this includes the lg and the lecson

RE: Lecson dvd-900

i agree mick, if the guy wanted a dedicated mp3 player then he/she should have bought one. this is a minor gripe towards a great machine:)

when i bought mine from debenhams i was told if there is a need for an upgrade one will be made availible ( one of its selling points )

RE: AIWA 370- does not officially rock !!! - lecson 900 does

thanks for the support franco, :)

i think the lecson is an excellent machine and as you say easily hacked for regions. i have not been able to get a macrovision hack for it have you had any luck in this department?

RE: AIWA 370- does not officially rock !!! - lecson 900 does

troll i don`t understand your comment on ntsc to pal 50 as i have played x-men region 1 ( ntsc ) by selecting ntsc on the on screen setup and it plays perfectly with no stutters or glitches, are you perhaps quoting a wharefedale problem?. my comment on the dd on the aiwa may have been misleading what i meant was that it does not have the best sound quality through my tv( sony trinitron ) as the lecson does, this was without putting it through an amp! . i took this to be because the lecson has an on board decoder and will play dd sound straight to tv rather than having to go through an amp.
it was not an intention to diss other players but lets be realistic aiwa and lg are not the only players at the end of the dvd rainbow, vcd for example:)

RE: AIWA 370- does not officially rock !!! - lecson 900 does

point taken jimbo,my response was actually to trolls points.

however, as has been stated beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and it takes different strokes for different folks etc. speaking from experience and having been relatively new to the dvd game i know how influential this forum can be on someone looking for a decent player and simply wanted to point out that recommendations don,t always mean its the player for you.
no bruised egos i hope, as i enjoy the info and knowledge exchanged on this forum :)

RE: AIWA 370- does not officially rock !!! - lecson 900 does

the lecson 900 is not a wharefedale 750 with a 5.1 decoder it is a dofferent machine with different firmware ( upgradeable ) and as mick golby points out plays the disks that are usually problematic to wharefdales.
i suggest that you have a read of the february issue of what hi-fi where it rates the aiwa 370 as three stars and gives a direct recommendation that the lecson is better ( five stars ) :P

AIWA 370- does not officially rock !!! - lecson 900 does

sorry to inform all those people out there desperate for an aiwa 370 but in my opinion ( having had one ) it does not even begin to compare in picture or sound quality to the lecson 900.
after reading all the postings and genaral hype about the 370 i was desperate to get my hands on what sounded like the perfect budget player. i had bought a lecson 900 which is an excellent machine (£179 from debenhams) only gripe i had was the noise from the drive so i returned itand began my search for an aiwa, which i found in the form of a display model at comet in uddingston.

after all the talk on this forum i thought i was about to be put into dvd heaven by the outstanding quality of this machine, how wrong i was.
the picture quality is poor ( yes poor !!) the machine seems to over sharpen images similar to when you sharpen a digital picture on a computer you lose some of the fine detail and it does not fare very well in scenes that have groupings of dark objects or dark scenes in films such as seven.

the aiwa as we know does not have a digital decoder on board so the sound is rather light in comparison. yes i know it looks like a good machine and a lot has been said about it but in terms of picture/ sound quality it cannot even hold a dimly lit candle to the lecson 900.

i returned my aiwa to comet uddingston branch ( so there one there for anyone who wants it ) and bought another lecson 900, i can put up with the drive noise for the quality in picture/ sound and features.

as i said before the only gripe i have with the lecson is that the drive is slightly noisy if it wasn`t it would be the perfect machine.

i am sure many people will disagree with the above but before you do, get experience of both machines ( like i did !! ) and then let me hear you say that the aiwa is better

all comments welcome, jimbo? anybody?

aiwa 370 or hitachi dvp 305e?jimbo

i took my lecson 900 back to debenhams and got a fullrefund, it was a decent player but the noise from the drive tray was too loud and off puting.
sooooo i am now faced with a dilemma guys, do i go for an ex-demo aiwa 370( as this seems to be all that i can get my grubby little hands on) or do i go for the brand spanking new out of the box hitatchi 305?
the aiwa crowd seem to be in dvd heaven (sorry troll:) ) and the hitachi gets a good write up and can be remote hacked

advice gentlemen please

extremely urgent as i am buying on thursday!!

aiwa 370- where in glasgow?

i like the sound of the aiwa 370 can anyone tell me where in glasgow stocks them? one for jimbo possibly, appreciate the help.

i have a lecson 900 ( good machine ) but i find the noise of the drive infuriating during quieter parts of movies (possibly just mine but i suspect not )

help if you can
cheers

RE: Lecson Region One jitter problem. Help!

i also had this problem until i realised 1 minute later that i had to select ntsc on setup ( duh !! ) as rergion 1 discs are pressed for america and their systems are ntsc, simple innit

hope this helps you

ferguson video recorders defeat macrovision

i dont know how or why but ferguson video recorders do not recognise macrovision signals and allow you to make perfect copies of whatever you like( purely for back up of course, tee hee )
this method was mentioned in the faq on this page and i thought i would try it. works like a dream and can be bought cheaply at either ex tv rental shops or ads in local papers
hope this helps anybody looking to make copies :)

RE: Bye Bye Alba 103 - What next????

i also had an alba and got rid of itdue to numerous probs, i now have a lecson 900 which is very good in both sound and vision and would recommend this particular player £179 from debenhams only drawback is slightly loud drive mechanism which can be heard during quiet parts of movies.
there are loads of other players out there this is only my opinion based on what i have had , hope it helps

RE: ALBA DVD103 - Problems with `GO` dvd - any clues?

i can confirm that the alba 103 is a very poor player. yes i know it is cheap and has a lot of features and is getting great reviews in magazines but it does not do its basic function very well i.e. play a dvd. picture quality is poor compared to other players and audio is light. after 5 days of ownership mine was showing pixelation on final destination ( first play ) and was not allowing me to ff fast back or pause a picture from either the remote or the unit itself. i took mine back to asda and got a full efund, went of to debenhams and got a lecson900 fantastic quality of picture and brilliant sound ( can also be made multi region ) do yourself a favour mate and get a refund, it`ll all end in tears ye know.

RE: Lecson 900 is it noisy

i have a lecson 900 no high pitched noises but the general disk drive mechanism is quite noisy and can be heard during quiter parts of movies

lecson 900- any info ?

anyone got a macrovision hack for this? anyone know which chipset it uses? any lecson sites out or info out there?
thanx
