I only have 3 Region 1 DVD`s in my collection at the moment but the two that are particualy my favourite are as follows:

1. The Rock Criterion Edition - An Excellent Top Notch Film
2. Cliffhanger S.E - Much better than the Region 2 counterpart as its been slashed to bits - not just by a few seconds but by minutes at least. I even sold my R2 on ebay and bought the R1 for not much more from the US. An excellent Film.

I would of also like to get Fight Club Region 1 but the Region 4 version was much cheaper so it won.

My Favourite Region 2 DVDs have to be:

1.The Matrix (Like everyone else - is there anyone out there who doesn`t like it I wonder (Possible thread?))
2. Bad Boys (The one with Will Smith & Martin Lawarence - Class Action Film)
3. Fight Club - Pure Class!!!

What is Firmware?

Hello,

I have recently took my player (Technics SCDV150) into a panasonic test to be chipped.

Instead they are going to use software to rewrite the players programme. Is this what is called a firmware update?

When the software has been rewritten will it allow me to change the region of the player manually so that i can get around RCE DVD`s

After they use the service DVD on it will you be able to select a region in order to get around RCE?

Hello i`ve just taken my technics dvd system (SCDV150 - the model before yours) to the panasonic centre in my city and they have got a cd/dvd that re-writes the software on the player so that it will allow it to play any region dvd. This privilege I believe will only set me back a tenner and won`t void my guarentee. This is your best option I think!

RE: Criterion?

Sorry i Have a player which is not hackable via the remote - it has to be chipped (its a technics Dv150), that why i was wondering what decent R0 Criterion Disks are there and where can I get them from?

Thanks for all the info, i have some more requests and are as follows;

I have a R2 player and for the forseeable future wont be getting it chipped so i was what criterion titles are R0? If there are any what ones are the best?

I have to say for me the following films are really bad and a waste of time:

Wild Wild West - I was waiting for all the cool bits in the video and never got them - what a marketing ploy - make a music video of the film and dont include any of the bits that are in the film well most of them anyway!

The Avengers is another s***e film - its like the action scenes were over before they began. in one place where Miss Peel dives into the water, you just see her climning out of the water. Its Ridiculus.

I saw a Jet Li film this week called The Enforcer and the dubbing was the worse i have ever seen, i had to watch it all just for that!

Hello

I bought this DVD last week and i am really dissapointed with it as it has been cut in several places throughout the film. Why do they do this on a 15 certificated film. The first version I saw of this on television a few years ago and it was not cut as much. Does this bother anyone else that films released on DVD specifically that are 15 certificates that get cut to pieces? Also there is some instances on the film that the editing cuts out part of some words. The editing from the violence shots aren`t that great either. I feel that i have been ripped of in buying this film that isn`t the full version!

Do Region 4 DVDs work on Region 2 Players?

I have heard that some Region 4 DVDs work on Region 2 players, is this correct?

at my store here in plymouth the offer applies on all DVD`s excluding box sets, so yesterday i managed to get my hands on independence day, cliffhanger and titan AE, so it worked out that each DVD was about 13 quid each - bargain!!!!

DVD Release Dates

It seems silly now that the DVD industry has started delaying the releases of DVD`s. Its only going to cost them in the long run as people may just watch the film on the video rental then not to bother to wait another month to buy the DVD when it comes out. Feel free to discuss, would be nice to hear your comments.

Alba 103 Defeats RCE on Hollow Man

I used someone`s information posted on this site to help me and my girlfriend play our Region 1 Hollow Man on an Alba 103 by defeating its RCE. Thanks to that person, its a bit more complicated then the Region 1 Patriot disc on getting to the film but it works. Here is a recap on how to do it ;

place the dvd in the tray and close it
when its loading repeatedly press the stop button on the control
when you see the blue alba screen come up - press the digest button and wait for a few of the thumbnails to load up on screen
To play the Hollow Man DVD u need to press 9 and then skip on two chapters - this will then start playing the film.
