Alternatives to Mailwasher?

Since I got a new PC in November the Mailwasher website has been down. I`m getting bucketloads of spam and was wondering if I can`t get MW for the time being what else is there, freeshare-wise, on the web?

I suspect you would not see a difference in PAL/NTSC unless it was projected or on a larger plasma screen. An ordinary CRT would not be large enough to show the difference in horizontal lines.

Play`s website yesterday said mine shipped on 12/11 then this morning I got an e-mail telling me it shipped yesterday. See Play`s reply below trying to explain why the original shipping date was incorrect:

RE: Monitor Won`t work with New motherboard

Sorry about hijacking this thread but I`ve got a similar problem ...

Mine kept freezing randomly, sometimes at start up, sometimes when the desktop was loading - basically any time, any place. I removed a faulty slave HD (diagnosed by a technician earlier this year) so that the IDE cable just has the booting HD on it. I cannot get the PC to load up now and there`s no signal going to the monitor. I`ve checked the cables and the AGP card, sound and modem but there is nothing out of place. I do get some BIOS beeps at start up but cannot see why as I`ve only removed the corrupted slave HD. I always boot up from the master into Windows ME and have only kept the slave as couldn`t be bothered to remove it/hoped to get some data back.

I`ve even re-inserted the slave and changed the pins back to the settings before I opened the case up but it still does not load up or send a signal to the monitor.

Any ideas? :/

I`ve got a Chaintech 6BTM mobo. Can`t find any info on the web or CT`s site (surprisingly they don`t support it now) about the AGP slot apart from that it`s v1.0 compliant. Have found out that the DIMMs run off 3.3V so I guess that`s what the AGP is. Right?

Upgrading a graphics card

I`ve got AGP x2 on my 4 year old Evesham PC and have a 16MB Nvidia TNT2 card in it at the moment. I want to run Champ Manager 4 but the minimum requirements are 32 MB. Can I upgrade my card to a newer AGP 4 or 8 card or am I stuck with trying to find a x2 card?

I`m thinking that I can upgrade but it would only run at x2. Still this would be better than what I`ve got if I can get something with more MB on board. I haven`t got a free PCI slot, otherwise I`d upgrade that way.

HELP! BT are frying my PC!

Hope someone knowledgable can help me with an infuriating problem. My ageing system is: Evesham Vale tower PC consisting of a Chaintech 6BTM mobo, P3 800 FC, 512MB PC100 SDRAM, 30GB HD, Nvidia TNT2 16MB AGPx2, Win ME, IE 5.0, 56k internal modem, Mailwasher, popup killer, Norton Systemworks 2003, HP CD-RW, Creative DVD-RoM and Soundblaster.

I`ve had Openworld now since March and it keeps freezing my PC. I can ordinarily play Champ Manager for hours throughout the day or evening and not have a problem but logging onto BT my PC freezes. Apart from last week when it stayed connected for several hours the BT hom page does not even load up fully before my cursor and the PC are stuck. No keyboard shortcuts work and I have to either shut down or re-start.

The problem with re-starting is that, with BT, I don`t get as far as Scandisk. On re-booting I get the BIOS data and then the screen goes blank and the PC stops sending data to the monitor. I re-start again and get Scandisk this time. However, either the PC freezing or me re-booting causes the video card to re-set display settings to 640 x 480 with minimum colours. I re-set the display to 1024 x 768 and windows re-starts. I then change the colurs back to 32-bit. When I get into Windows ME the desktop has gone and I have to recover it.

When all this has been done (10 mins later) I try again to connect to BT and it fails again. Last week (with the exception of Tuesday when it stayed online for hours) I got 10-15 minutes use inbetween re-booting sessions.

Can anyone offer their experiences of BT and suggest how this can be fixed? I`ve tried logging on to BT`s newsgroups but my work PC does not allow access to these. I`ve e-mailed BT but am not expecting a fast response. I don`t really want to re-format my PC or buy a new one just yet so any help would be appreciated. :) Claudia

Why do we have to wait until April? The title`s ready for release so why not release it in a month`s time? I can understand delaying it but people unaware of this story will just get more and more frustrtaed at the lack of info or a release date.

Insomnia is a MAJOR bugbear of mine as both R1 & R2 are identical. They both only have a director`s commentary on the deleted scenes and not the main feature. I bought this on the understanding there was a commentary on the feature and no website mentions that it isn`t. The only language tracks on the feature are DD5.1 English and French (R1).

RE: WHAT`S THE BEST FREE FIREWALL PROTECTION

After years without a firewall I downloaded Zone Alarm the other day. Last night my PC gave me several blue screens on booting up. I could only access the internet if I disabled the Outgoing protection and could only open up my e-mail by un-installing ZA. Before I was getting a message that I could only cancel (and close down Explorer) or Ignore (and the message stayed).

I`m not the type to read through tons of readme files so uninstalled it.

You`ll still need two machines if you want to permanently record from the Thomson. It`s only a hard drive recorder with a play-only DVD. You`ll need either a DVD writer or a VCR (which kinda defeats the object of higher quality recordings if it`s going onto tapes).

I recently got a Panny DRM-HS2 after reading so much about each format. In the end I wanted reliability and the ability to record and wipe so chose the HDD Panny. I always wanted a VCR that could edit out the adverts and the RAM facility to partial erase is a dream, freeing up the space - unlike +R/RW where the space is forever lost for as long as you keep the recording.

Predator SE will be released in Region 2 before 1. There are no plans that I have heard of for the R2 upcoming SE to also be made into a R1. McTiernan had more time to create a SE of Predator after finishing the Die Hard set (which came after the dts R1 had already been released).

Not too sure on TR. *** SPOILER ALERT ***

Rented it this week and am still uncertain about it. There`s just too many coincidentals in the film to make it enjoyable for me like how Lara discovered the clock just as the bad guy needed the ever-seeing eye - and that the eclipse only happened once every 5,000 years but that Richard Croft had discovered the triangle years ago when no one else had discovered it (if he knew the location how come he didn`t inform Lara where the second half was buried/hid? Why when Lara fell into the Mongolan tomb was there no rubble on the floor when she fell through the roof? What was the bif deal with the kids outside the same tomb? Why weren`t the Lara manion`s gates locked as the bad guys arrived when the treasures were being attacked?

Great action but definitely one that I`m glad I rented first before thinking about buying.

I got mine last Thursday after ordering last Sunday. No probs with the service just that they didn`t extend the VAT-free sale for the number of days the site was inaccesible for. After saying they had had that same enquiry from a number of unhappy customers I would of thought theey would of obliged.

Still they`ve got a load of Levi jeans to offload now at ful MSRP so Tesco probably cannot afford to sell anything else cheap anymore.
