That`s a bargain : the picture is wrong, however (that`s the XWave they`re showing).

See http://www.lgdvd.co.uk for more details about the `3000.

Intrigued as to why there is only a 30 day warranty on them : surely the standard LG warranty is 1 year ?

Silicon are an edinburgh based computer component seller, and very dodgy at that, buy at your own risk.

Sorry to disagree with you but IMHO Silicon have been consistently the best retailer for PC components ie, media/CPU`s/Memory etc.over the last few years.
I have been building PC`s for about 6 years and get all of my components from them .During this time I have only ever had to take one thing back and that was a Jetway M/B which they replaced the same day with a more updated board at no extra cost to me. I have never heard anyone claim that they were a dodgy dealer, also as BP used to source PC`s from them I would think that if they were good enough for them I`m sure they are good enough for a pleb like me.Then again maybe me and all of my mates are just lucky:-)

I agree with Wullie - they are dodgy. Don`t you remember they got busted a few years ago for selling pirate software?

I bought a cd writer from them which was displayed as being new but it wouldn`t work, it turned out to be second hand - when I returned it they said "Oh that`s OK, we knew there was some that never worked anyway". They are not too happy giving you your money back either. And as for the staff - jeez talk about talking sh*te - they are the experts at that!

My mate also had trouble with a graphics card that never worked because it had been modded. The heat sink had been removed and a fan had been put in its place.

Anyway just my opinion - I would never buy anything from them again.

Ignoring what appears to be defamatory comment regarding Silicon Group on this thread, (where`s a moderator when you need one) I have purchased many bits and pieces from Silicon over the last few years and have never had any problems other than a duff telephone lead with a modem which they promptly replaced.

Not convinced that Silicon were convicted of selling pirate software, tho` I may be wrong.

Choagy, I was 1 of silicons top customers back when they only had the small shop further up Dalry Road, and for a few years after, but when the chips are down they are dodgy. They get their stock direct from the far east which is why they are cheap. If in 6 years you have only had a problem with 1 item, then that would explain why you hold them in reasonable regard. Shop at Ideal Computing instead www.ideal-computing.co.uk, nice lads wit good prices. Also Silicon were being sued for a said some of £250,000 for software piracy from my very good friend Mr Bill Gates (knob) about 4 years ago although I am not sure of the outcome.

Thanks for the info on the software piracy charge wullie I`ll check up to see if I can get any more info.
I think they have were taken over by another retailer in the last couple of years but still trade under Silicon, maybe they changed hands after any court case? If the reason they sell so cheaply is that they import direct from the far east then I can`t see any problem there .I`ll certainly check out Ideal computing`s prices etc and see if they compare favourably with silicon. Having said what I have about silicon only one thing would possibly put up a flag and that would be that last year I heard they were selling WinME U/G for £40 I think and I believe that it was OEM software so it should only have been sold with a system.

Hey Bob-B, I`d be happy for the moderators to have a look at this thread and "tidy up" anything that is not allowed on here. I`ve been posting here now for over 18 months and have never once had to be warned from the mods.

Anyway I thought that we were all entitled to our opinion. How stupid of me to try to advise others of potential risks eh?? However you can waste your time and money if you like - I won`t lose any sleep over it.

:-)
