Page 1 of HMV BOGOF
Bargain Buckets Forum
In store, also online.
Most discs are priced at £19.99, but not a bad selection... Wicker Man 2-disc, Spinal Tap 2-Disc, Amelie, Great Escape SE, Fifth Element, and all the usual suspects (yes, that`s in there too).
Only went in for the free `Sun` Blondie cd too... sigh...

Steve, if you follow the postings on this site you should be aware that MOST (not all) of us don`t rate HMV`s Bogofs one bit. As you`re paying nearly £20 for the two movies, you will almost certainly find most of them cheaper than £10 elsewhere. What it particularly galling, though, is the fact that most of their dvd`s have had their prices increased to allow HMV to make the so-called offer. A practice that is, at best, highly dubious! Roger.
Roger, fair point about HMV bumping up the prices when they bring in these deals, and I`m not their biggest fan either.
However when I did a price check at dvdpricecheck.co.uk, the cheapest Wicker Man 2 disc they found was £18, Amelie £15, etc. Play did have Spinal Tap two disc for £10 (the same as the HMV price on this offer) but, having had stuff lost in the post from Play before, if I can go into a shop and equal their price then that makes sense to me.
.
I`m not saying that this is a fabulous deal, but it MAY turn out to be cheaper in certain cases, and then it`s an alternative worth considering.
One person`s bargain is another`s rip off. ;-)

There are/were a few good deals on offer. I purchased Lagaan and Terminator 2 for £24.99 and Metropolis ( Anime ) and Last Of The Mohicans for £19.99. I trawled through the websites of a few highly rated mail order companies earlier today and none of them can currently beat the above prices ( i.e. one site is asking £21.49 for Lagaan and £18.99 for Terminator 2. ) Some people are hard to please :-)

Hugh and Steve.
Nice to see you`re fans of HMV`s Bogof, however I appear to have struck a nerve, judging by the comments made. I`m sure that if you look long and hard at the list you`ll find something that just undercuts everyone else, and, as long as it`s really what you want, that`s fine. But Hugh, Terminator 2 Special Edition 2-disk can be bought for £10.99 from CD Wow, with free postage from one of the best mail-order companies in the business. And it`s region 2 U.K. as well. As for Spinal Tap 2-disk, I bought it some little while ago from Makro`s for £7.99 + vat. Admittedly you have to have a card, or know someone who does, but many places have reduced this at some time or other. A few of us criticised the last HMV Bogof and the abuse given by people who thought they were getting the ultimate bargain was unbelievable, however I have to say it again, that the practice of `bumping` up the prices to £19.99 and above is almost tantamount to an illegal act, however they will continue to do it as long as some people get drawn in to buy. `nuff said. Roger.
Roger
Respect your views, but I can only tell you that today I saved £14 on two dvds that I wanted, compared with the best online prices I could find!
Hope you don`t consider this `abuse`?

I`m not a fan of H.M.V. by any means but I still think you can pick up a bargain ( of sorts ) now and then. I could not find anyone selling Lagaan and Metropolis any cheaper so I was prepared to pay slightly more for Terminator 2 than I would have done had I gone to CDWow. I use CDWow extensively and have to agree with you that they are an excellent company. My one criticism of them is that the range of titles they offer for sale is very restricted. Hopefully that is something they will improve on in the near future.

I think that the days when the Internet was always the cheapest source have gone. I still check play.com, but I`m wary of Customs & Excise on the more expensive items, and the local supermarkets can often match the other Internet dealers. Tesco and Blackstar are selling "Fellowship of the Ring" at the same price, but Blackstar add postage.
It comes down to knowing what prices really are. And that`s what this forum is all about.
Last of the Mohicans is at dvdsoon.ca for $17.98CA (£7.18) .
I purchased Last Of The Mohicans for a relative who has an unmodified Region 2 d.v.d. player.
