Latest 3 contract deals

Reestit Mutton (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 3rd March 2005, 11:22

Now that 3 have reinstated their 3 months 1/2 price offer, the deals on offer from the cashback contract dealers are beginning to improve again (after a month of particularly lacklustre offers). Here are two particularly interesting deals:

======================================================================

Dialaphone

Motorola C975
Talk & Text 600 (normally £30/month)

Retailer description: £4.99 per month for 12 months + £10 cashback

Network discount: £45 (3 months @ 1/2 price)
Retailer cashback: £265.12

Cashback schedule:
£10 after 1 month (automatic payment)
£30.03 after 3 months
£75.03 after 6, 9 & 12 months

Minimum term cost = £49.88
(Equivalent to £4.16/month)

PLEASE NOTE: The customer is required to claim their cashback in FOUR separate parts. I have my own suspicions as to why this is the case, which I have explained in the article on my site.

E2Save

NEC E338
Talk & Text 600 (normally £30/month)

Retailer desscription: 9 months FREE line rental

Network discount: £45 (3 months @ 1/2 price)
Retailer cashback: £225

Cashback schedule:
£30 after 1 month (automatic payment)
£97.50 after 6 & 12 months

Minimum term cost = £90.00
(Equivalent to £7.50/month)

Thanks RM.

One thing that has always stopped me from going with 3 is that they state that calls outside their network are not included in talktime and where i live is only covered by the the talk and picture area. I think that they use other networks to provide this so will I be able to use all the free minutes they are giving away?

Thanks, Ryan.

Ryan,

You`ve completely misunderstood their pricing structure (a common problem, infact). Once you`ve used up your free minutes, on-net calls are 5p/min if they are delivered via the 3 network but they will be 15p/min on-net if the call has to be routed via O2 rather than 3 (because there is a very weak or no 3 service in your area).

However, this only applies once you`re paying for calls (i.e. after you`ve used up your free minutes). If you`re still within your free minute allowance then it`s free to call regardless of which network delivers your calls. i.e. you WILL be able to make use of the free minutes package regardless of whether there is 3 network provision in your area or not.

This isn`t just theory, it`s backed up by many 3 contract users on forums such as this and usenet. Not one of them has confirmed being charged for their calls when this issue has been queried - However, many have consistently insisted that they haven`t been charged.

Thanks for setting that straight. I`ll certainly be considering 3 when my contracts next up.

I`ve just got a contract phone on 3. Prehaps not the cheapest tariff, it`s £20month on talk and text 200. That`s 100 text and 100 xnet/anytime minutes a month. The first month is free.

I`m a very casual user so it roughly works out at the same price as these 3/6 month half price deals and then £30/35 a month thereafter, although I`d obviously be getting more minutes with these tariffs.

I got the Motorola E1000 free which is fab (apart from poor battery life) and the 3G is good - although it would be very expensive if you were to take advantage of content.

Got it from www.phones2udirect.co.uk (don`t mind plugging them because touch wood nothing has gone wrong, and the delivery was in less than 24 hours.

Yup - that`s a cracking deal (OSPS V545 - 11 months free) - it`s been available for at least a week now - I put an article up on my site about it on 25 February.

This deal is available on both Orange OVP Relax 100 & Orange OVP Relax 200.
